Nintendo Co. this week said it will offer a free copy of Pokemon X or Y with the registration of the Nintendo 3DS XL or Nintendo 2DS and a select game.

In the offer, customers who register a Nintendo 3DS XL or Nintendo 2DS and a select game will receive a digital code to download either Pokemon X or Pokemon Y at no cost.

Eligible titles include Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, or Yoshi’s New Island.

Customers must register the system and game between Mar. 1 and Mar. 31, 2014. Download codes for Pokemon X or Pokemon Y must be redeemed by May 31, 2014.

Nintendo held a net profit of $99 million in the third quarter due to strong sales of Nintendo 3DS software.

The Nintendo 3DS has sold (to retailers) 42.74 million units and 152.29 software units to date.

The company forecasted a loss of $242 million for the fiscal year ending Mar. 31. In addition, it has lowered Nintendo 3DS annual sales to 13.5 million from 18 million units.
