Nintendo Co. this week said Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U will be released May 30.

New to Mario Kart 8 are vehicle transformations that allow each kart to race through anti-gravity tracks. In the preview build users could drive against the wall, paraglide after a jump, and cruise underwater.

New characters include Rosalina, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and all seven Koopalings.

The Wii U has sold 5.86 million hardware units and 29.37 software units to date. It sold 2.4 million Wii U units in the third quarter.
