Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 13,360 units between Jan. 20 to Jan. 26 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 13,243 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10 software sales for the week, including Sengoku Basara 4 at No. 1 and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z at No. 5.

The Playstation 4 held top sales at Amazon.com Inc. this week amid restock of the in-demand hardware.

This week, the PS4 500GB SKU ranked as the No. 2 best-selling product in Amazon’s Video Games division.

Square Enix Holdings Co. this week said it will release the Final Fantasy IV: A Realm Reborn Collector’s Edition for the Playstation 4 Apr. 14.

The Collector’s Edition will include an exclusive box, hardbound art book, The Waning of the Sixth Sun Blu-ray disc, The Sounds of Eoreza music collection disc, five art cards, branded security token, and six in-game bonus items at $79.99.

Final Fantasy IV: A Realm Reborn is a massive online multiplayer title that includes eighteen different classes and cross-platform play.

Sony this week said Killzone: Shadow Fall for the Playstation 4 has sold more than 2.1 million units at global retail.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is set thirty years after the events of the Killzone trilogy.

The two rival factions of the Helghast and the Vektans live side by side in a futuristic city, divided by a vast wall. A Shadow Marshall must maintain the balance between the two former enemies.

Sony this week released the Make it Rain Trailer for Infamous: Second Son for the Playstation 4.

The trailer features developer Sucker Punch in a discussion of the development of the title, including the recreation of the city of Seattle.

In Infamous: Second Son, Delsin Rowe, a man who discovers new powers, is on the run from the Department of Unified Protection, a group that aims to hunt down and cage superhumans.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this month said it will release Ace Combat Infinity beta for the Playstation 3 to the Playstation Network division Feb. 4.

The beta will run between Feb. 4 and Feb. 11 and allow users to engage in Campaign and Co-op missions.

In addition, a bonus ‘Test Pilot’ emblem will be awarded to users who participate in the beta.

The free-to-play entry will include a brand new story campaign and team co-op multiplayer.

Sales for the Playstation Vita ranked as the No. 2 video game hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 23,290 units between Jan. 20 and Jan. 26 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 26,963 units the week prior.

The Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z PS Vita SKU ranked as the No. 6 best-selling software title for the week.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 3,428 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware ranked No. 6 units in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 260 units between Jan. 20 and Jan. 26 to rank No. 6 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 273 units the week prior.

Microsoft this week said it has acquired rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games.

In addition, the company said Black Tusk Studios will take over development of the franchise.

Finally, it said it will continue to work with Epic Games to include Unreal Engine technology in the franchise.

The Gears of War franchise has sold 22 million units worldwide grossed more than $1 billion at retail.

Microsoft this week announced a partnership with the NFL to offer the NFL Now application to the Xbox One console.

NFL Now will offer NFL content and interactive experiences including integrated NFL.com Fantasy Football and personalized highlight reels.

The application will be released in the summer, ahead of the 2014 NFL season.

Microsoft this week announced Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason International Champions for Xbox One.

Through Feb. 28, users can compete to represent their country by setting the best race time on the national and international leaderboards.

The world champion will receive an in-game gold-encrusted wave racer, while the national champion will receive an in –game silver-encrusted wake racer.

The Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason download trial allows users to Wake Racing event, unlock a split-screen co-op vs. mode, and compete in new monthly challenges.

Respawn Entertainment this month said EA Inc.’s Titanfall for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the PC will not include local multiplayer.

The developer this month said split-screen multiplayer will not be an option in the final build.

Titanfall, to be sold Mar. 11, will be sold in a standard edition at $59.99 and a Collector’s Edition SKU that includes an 18-inch Atlus Titan Statue with battery-powered LED lighting, 190-page art book, and Atlas Titan schematic poster at $249.99.

Square Enix Co Ltd. this week released Tomb Raider Definitive Edition to U.S. retail.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is remastered to 1080p resolution, includes subsurface scattering technology, more sophisticated physics modeling, and upgraded characters and enemies.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week released Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z to U.S. retail.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z is a new fighting entry that includes cel-shaded HD graphics, single-player campaign, expanded versus modes and co-op modes.

Characters include Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta with trademark attacks including the Kamehameha, Special Beam Cannon, and Spirit Bomb.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware ranked fourth in Japan in the latest sales data for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 8,490 units between Jan. 20 and Jan. 26 to rank at No. 4 in overall sales.

It sold 11,443 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any software titles in the top 10.

Nintendo this week recorded a profit in the third quarter despite slow sales for the Wii U console.

The company this week said held a net profit of $99 million in the third quarter due to strong sales of Nintendo 3DS software.

The Wii U has sold 5.86 million hardware units and 29.37 software units to date. It sold 2.4 million Wii U units in the quarter.

The Nintendo 3DS has sold (to retailers) 42.74 million units and 152.29 software units to date.

The company forecasted a loss of $242 million for the fiscal year ending Mar. 31. In addition, it has lowered Wii U annual sales to 2.8 million from nine million and Nintendo 3DS annual sales to 13.5 million from 18 million units.

Nintendo this week said it will release a Quick Start Menu for the Wii U GamePad in a future system update.

The Quick Start Menu will allow users to load recent software from the GamePad without booting to the main menu.

The company said the function should decrease boot time by 50 percent.

Nintendo this week said it will utilize smart devices to attract new customers amid slowing demand for its console and handheld products.

The company this week said it will take advantage of smart mobile devices this year, which may include making some application this year intended to attract consumer attention.

It added that it would not rule out the possibility of making games using Nintendo characters, it clarified that it has no plans to release Nintendo software assets directly to mobile devices.

The Nintendo 3DS ranked as the top hardware in Japan due to strong demand for the handheld.

Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold units between Jan. 20 and Jan. 26 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 38,229 units the week prior.

It ranked seven titles in the top 10 game sales including Kirby Triple Deluxe at No. 2, Pokemon X / Y at No. 9 and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds at No. 10.
