Microsoft Corp. this week said it has acquired rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games.

In addition, the company said Black Tusk Studios will take over development of the franchise.

Finally, it said it will continue to work with Epic Games to include Unreal Engine technology in the franchise.

The Gears of War franchise has sold 22 million units worldwide grossed more than $1 billion at retail.

The most recent release, A HREF=”″>Gears of War: Judgment, is set years prior to the events of the Gears of War trilogy.
