Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 14,845 units between Jan. 6 to Jan. 12 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 40,085 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster at No. 6.

Sony this week said the Playstation 4 held the cumulative sales lead in next-generation console sales post release of new Dec. U.S. retail data by NPD Group Inc.

The company in Jan. said the PS4 has sold 4.2 million units in global territories.

DICE this week released a new patch update to EA Inc.’s Battlefield 4 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4.

The update is said to address stability and balancing issues, including increased damage by 25% for the Stealth Jet 20mm cannons, normalized repair rates across all vehicles, fix for friendly marker not always showing, and fixed bug where game wouldn’t start when when the console was running in select languages.

Sony this week previewed free multiplayer maps for Killzone: Shadow Fall for the Playstation 4.

The free multiplayer maps include The Cruiser, a close to mid-range combat map set in a decommissioned ISA cruiser, and The Hanger, a wide map in the hanger bay of a Helghan mining spire.

The maps will be sold at a to-be-determined date.

Sony this week said the HBO GO application will be available for the Playstation 3 followed by the Playstation 4.

Consumers who subscribe to HBO and own a PS3 or PS4 will have unlimited, on-demand access to HBO shows, including Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and True Detective.

A final release date is to be determined.

Toyota this week said the Toyota FT-1 concept car is now available as a downloadable vehicle in Gran Turismo 6 for the Playstation 3.

Beginning Jan. 14, a free online update will allow users to drive vehicle in a seasonal event featuring the Toyota FT-1. Users who receive a bronze or better in the challenge will receive the car.

Sony this month released Bioshock Infinite to the Instant Game Collection to Playstation Plus members.

The title is now available at no cost to PS Plus members.

Bioshock Infinite is a first-person shooter title that includes a new protagonist hired to rescue a young woman held in a sky city called Columbia.

Ubisoft Inc. this week released Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD for the Playstation 3 to the Playstation Store.

Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation HD includes high-definition graphics and 15 new missions.

It sells at $19.99.

Sales for the Playstation Vita ranked as the No. 2 video game hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 32,016 units between Jan. 6 and Jan. 12 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 75,400 units the week prior.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster ranked as the No. 6 best-selling software for the week.

Tecmo Koei Corp. this week said Toukiden: The Age of Demons for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita will be sold Feb. 11 at U.S. retail.

Developed by Omega Force, the action adventure title includes a demon-fighting warrior who can accept quests and venture out to battle demons.

The final game includes character customization, weapon choice, and four-player online and local multiplayer functionality.

It will sell at $39.99.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware ranked No. 6 units in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 281 units between Jan. 6 and Jan. 12 to rank No. 6 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 447 units the week prior.

The Xbox One console ranked as the No. 1 best-selling console in Dec. at U.S. retail in data by NPD Group Inc.

The data firm this week said the Xbox One sold 908,000 units in Dec.

The Xbox 360 sold 643,000 units in the same period.

Microsoft added retail spent on the Xbox platform in Dec. totaled to $1.39 billion.

Consumers have purchased 2.9 Xbox One games per console since launch.

Microsoft this week released the Immersive Gaming advertisement for the Xbox One console.

The advertisement features a man who hallucinates injury due to the title Ryse: Son of Rome.

The Xbox One hardware has sold three million units at global retail in the year ending 2013.

Microsoft this week released Tomb Raider and the Guardian of Light to the ‘Games with Gold’ program.

Tomb Raider and the Guardian of Light in a download title in the action franchise top-down puzzle, combat, and exploration.

The final game includes two-player co-op functionality.

Microsoft this week said the Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught DLC for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 will be sold Jan. 28 in the Xbox Live division.

Onslaught includes four new multiplayer maps – Fog, BayView, Containment and Ignition – and an all-new dual-purpose Assault Rifle / Sniper Rifle, and Episode 1: Nightfall of the Extinction Mode four-part episodic campaign.

Microsoft this week said it will release a limited edition wireless controller for Respawn Entertainment and EA Inc.’s Titanfall for the Xbox One.

The Titanfall Xbox One Limited Edition Wireless Controller, designed by Respawn Entertainment, is inspired by the C-101 Carbine used by Titan pilots.

It will be sold Mar. 11 at $64.99.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware fell in Japan in the latest sales data for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 14,020 units between Jan. 6 and Jan. 12 to rank at No. 3 in overall sales.

It sold 51,271 units the week prior.

Super Mario 3D World ranked at No. 9 in software sales selling 13,079 units for the week. The title has sold 452,521 copies since launch.

Nintendo Co. this week estimated a loss for the fiscal year amid slow sales of the Wii U console.

The company this week said it expects to incur a $240 million annual loss.

In addition, it cut its fiscal year sales forecast for the Wii U to 2.8 million units from nine million units, and Wii U software sales to 19 million units from 39 million units.

Finally, the company lowered the fiscal year Nintendo 3DS sales estimate to 13.5 million units from 18 million units, and software sales to 66 million from 80 million units.

President Satoru Iwata said the company is thinking about a new business structure and cited smart devices as a way to increase the traditional game player business.

The Nintendo 3DS ranked as the top hardware in Japan due to strong demand for the handheld.

Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 60,154 units between Jan. 6 and Jan. 12 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 176,555 units the week prior.

It ranked seven titles in the top 10 game sales including Kirby Triple Deluxe at No. 1, Pokemon X / Y at No. 3 and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds at No. 4.
