LG Electronics this week announced new LG Smart TV sets that utilize the webOS platform at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV.

The webOS platform, purchased from Hewlett-Packard in Mar. 2013, will be integrated in 70 percent of LG Smart TV sets in 2014.

LG Smart TV webOSThe new OS includes a launcher which features a left-to-right scrollable menu to access broadcast TV, smart TV, external device content and applications.

In addition, the setup process includes an animated character called BeanBird to help users setup their Smart TV with the new Magic Remote pointer controller.

New native apps that utilize the webOS platform include Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Instant Video. LG Ultra HDTVs will support Netflix in 4K resolution.
