Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked fourth in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 23,959 units between Dec. 9 to Dec. 15 to rank No. 4 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 24,085 units the week prior.
The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10, including Nobunaga’s Ambition: Creativity at No.4, Call of Duty: Ghosts at No. 6, and Gran Turismo 6 at No. 7.
Sony this week said it will release the Multiplayer Trial for Killzone: Shadow Fall for the Playstation 4 to Playstation Plus members.
The free trial, available between Dec. 28 to Dec. 31, will allow PS Plus members to preview the full multiplayer component of the title.
Killzone: Shadow Fall is set thirty years after the events of the Killzone trilogy.
Ubisoft Inc. this week released the Freedom City DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
The Freedom City DLC features Jackdaw’s Quartermaster Adewale, who is a master at melee weaponry and commands the Experto Crede, a customizable brig.
The DLC is included in the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Season Pass at no cost.
Sony this week released the 1948 Hudson Superlap challenge in Gran Turismo 6 for the Playstation 3.
The 1948 Hudson Superlap challenge, available through Jan. 16, takes place on Willow Springs International Raceway and offers the 1948 Hudson as a reward for lap times above the Bronze Trophy target.
4J Studios this week released Minecraft for the Playstation 3 to the Playstation Network division.
In addition, the title is in development for the Playstation 4 and the PS Vita.
Developed by 4J Studios, Minecraft is a translation of the sandbox simulation title.
Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week released the demo for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z to the Playstation Network and the Xbox Live division.
The demo includes the single-player mode, co-op mode, and battle mode. In addition, save data will transfer to the final retail version.
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, to be sold Jan. 28, is a new fighting entry that will include cel-shaded HD graphics, single-player campaign, expanded versus modes and co-op modes.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 35,946 units between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 29,366 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 for the week.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 6,475 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.
Square Enix Holdings Co. this week said it will release Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remaster for the Playstation Vita Mar. 18, 2014 to U.S. retail.
The title will include Cross-Save functionality with the PS3 SKU.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will include Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 updated with high-definition graphics.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware ranked No. 7 units in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 536 units between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 473 units the week prior.
Microsoft this month will release a new update to Forza Motorsport 5 for the Xbox One which includes new tracks and economy balancing.
New race modes include drag racing and the multiplayer Tag mode.
In addition, the update will include economy balancing to increase credits earned for races and lower prices for expensive cars.
Crytek Inc. this week released a free game update to Ryse: Son of Rome for the Xbox One.
The update adds two new level events to Gladiator Mode, including a new enemy turret and Reward Statues for a one-time boost to Health or Focus properties.
Microsoft this week said the Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition has sold 10 million units to date.
An Xbox One SKU is said to feature updated graphics to utilize the new hardware.
Microsoft this week said Xbox Entertainment Studios will release an original documentary exclusive to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 via Xbox Live in 2014.
The documentary will investigate the burial of million of unsold game cartridges by The Atari Corporation after a negative response to the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial video game.
Microsoft this week said the Verizon FiOS TV App is now available for the Xbox One hardware.
The application allows Xbox Live Gold and Verizon FiOS TV customers to watch up to 74 live channels at no additional cost.
The final application includes gesture and voice controls via Kinect.
Microsoft this month said Capcom Co. will release the Dead Rising 3 Operation Broken Eagle DLC for the Xbox One Jan. 21.
It previously held a release date of Dec. 24.
Operation Broken Eagle will include Spec Ops commander Adam Kane in a mission to find and capture the president. The pack will feature five new weapons, a new combo weapon, a new vehicle, and additional outfits at $9.99.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 74,903 units between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15 to rank at No. 2 in overall sales.
It sold 48,762 units the week prior.
Super Mario 3D World ranked third in software sales selling 57,862 units for the week. The title has sold 241,107 copies since launch.
Nintendo this week said it will release Hyrule Warriors to the Wii U in 2014.
Developed by Tecmo Koei Holdings Co., Hyrule Warriors will be based on the Dynasty Warriors franchise and feature Link in large-scale battles.
The final game will feature a range of Zelda universe enemies and locations.
Nintendo this week released a new trailer for Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The preview video features new characters including Rosalina, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi.
New to Mario Kart 8 are vehicle transformations that allow each kart to race through anti-gravity tracks. In the preview build users could drive against the wall, paraglide after a jump, and cruise underwater.
Nintendo this week released NES Remix for the Wii U in the Nintendo eShop division.
NES Remix features 16 classic Nintendo titles remixed with new challenges.
Challenges include a Super Mario Bros. stage in which users must run left and a Donkey Kong level that allows users to play as Link.
The final game includes Miiverse functionality and 8-bit stamps to collect.
It sells at $14.99.
The Nintendo 3DS ranked as the top hardware in Japan due to strong demand for the handheld.
Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 181,516 units between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 125,269 units the week prior.
It ranked six titles in the top 10 game sales including Pazudora Z at No. 1, Pokemon X / Y at No. 2 and Bravely Default: For the Sequel at No. 8.
Nintendo Co. this week said it will release the demo for Bravely Default for the Nintendo 3DS ranked to the Nintendo eShop division Jan. 2.
Bravely Default is a turn-based RPG with customizable characters and a risk/reward battle mechanic system.
The Collector’s Edition includes the game, an art book, a soundtrack CD and 34 augmented-reality cards at $54.99.
Nintendo this week said it will release Kirby Triple Deluxe for the Nintendo 3DS in spring 2014.
The side-scroller will include brand new gameplay elements including the option move between the foreground and background, in addition to new copy abilities.
