Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita ranked as the top-selling video game hardware in Japan post release of the PS Vita TV product.
Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 90,996 units between Nov. 11 and Nov. 17 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week. A total of 40,225 units sold were PS Vita TV SKUs.
By comparison, the hardware sold 21,764 the week prior.
The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, God Eater 2 at No. 1 selling 258,832 units at launch.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 3,925 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.
PS Vita TV, released in Japan Nov. 14, is a console device based on PS Vita hardware that allows users to play PS Vita and PS1 titles.
In addition, users can access streaming content services in the region including Hulu, Tsutaya TV, and Nico Nico Douga.
The device sells at 9,480 yen or with a Dualshock 3 controller at 14,280 yen.
The PS Vita and PSP units sold 600,000 combined in the three-month period between Apr. and June 2013.
It forecasts sales of five million PS Vita and PSP units by fiscal Mar. 2014.
