Microsoft Corp. this week said the Xbox 360 ranked as the No. 2 game hardware in U.S. Oct. 2013 sales figures.

The Xbox 360 sold 166,000 units to rank as the No. 2 game hardware and the No. 1 console for the month in figures provided by NPD Group Inc.

Retail spend on the platform totaled $283 million for the month.

Microsoft in July said the Entertainment and Devices division generated $1.8 billion in the fourth quarter, an increase of $134 million from the prior quarter.

Operating income totaled $142 million in Q4.

The Xbox 360 shipped 1 million units in the quarter, down from 1.1 million the year prior.

Microsoft will release the Xbox One entertainment system Nov. 22.
