Sony Corp.’s Playstation Network went down for maintenance Fri. amid the launch of the Playstation 4 hardware in the U.S.
The online division has held intermittent functionality since launch. A number of consumers have reported error codes in an attempt to access the service. In the afternoon, the PS4 held a disclaimer that the PSN service is under maintenance.
In addition, PlayStation Plus 30-day trial memberships included with the PS4 may not be recognized due to maintenance. However, PlayStation App users can login to their PSN accounts to purchase and download free PS4 PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection titles like Resogun and Contrast to add to their download queue.
The hardware requires a 350MB System Software update to version 1.50 to configure services including Remote Play, online multiplayer functionality, and Share features.
The PS4 is sold at $399.99.
