Nintendo Co. this week said it will add Nintendo ID support to the Nintendo 3DS handheld in Dec.

A system update will allow Nintendo 3DS owners to login with their Nintendo ID from the Wii U console to combine Nintendo eShop account balances. 3DS owners who do not own a Wii U can create a new Nintendo ID.

In addition, the system update will add Miiverse functionality to the Nintendo 3DS to connect with other players.

The Nintendo 3DS sold 3.89 million units in the same period. It has sold 34.98 million units worldwide to date. Nintendo 3DS software sales totaled 122.42 million units to date.

Nintendo will sell Nintendo 3DS XL Gold and Black with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Bundle Nov. 22 at U.S. retail.
