Microsoft Corp. this week said Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 ranked as the top Xbox Live title for the week based on unique users in late Oct.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II ranked at No. 2 and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition ranked at No. 3 in the same period.
Grand Theft Auto V is set in a present-day Southern California location and is the largest and most thriving world in the city of Los Santos.
Each of the three main characters holds specific attributes. Michael is an ex-bank robber who can slow down time to target during gun fights, Franklin is hired muscle who can drive and take sharp corners with a similar slow down technique, and Trevor is a loose cannon that can fly into a rage to take less damage and perform a unique melee attack.
Grand Theft Auto Online, released Oct. 1, is a persistent online world for up to 16 players.
In addition, users can create a custom character, purchase a residence, or a buy garage to store cars, planes, and wave runners which can be used in competitive races.
Finally, users can utilize the Content Creator to create and share their own races and deathmatches.
Grand Theft Auto V generated more than $1 billion in global sales in the first 72 hours of release.
