Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked fourth in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 11,148 units between Oct. 28 to Nov. 3 to rank No. 4 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,460 units the week prior.
The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball at No. 2, Grand Theft Auto V at No. 8, and Tears to Tiara II at No. 10.
Sony this week said the Playstation 4 will include promotional vouchers in each unit.
Promotional offers include a $10 Playstation Store Credit, 30-day Playstation Plus Trial, and 30-day Music Unlimited Trial at no cost.
In addition, Sony this week announced digital entertainment apps to be available at launch for the Playstation 4.
Entertainment apps available Nov. 15 include Amazon Instant Video, Crackle, Crunchyroll, EPIX, Hulu Plus, NBA Game Time, Netflix, NHL GameCenter LIVE, Redbox Instant by Verizon, VUDU, and Yupp TV.
Sony this week released the BMW M235i Trailer for DriveClub for the Playstation 4.
The trailer features a virtual BMW M235i in a mountain race.
Developed by Evolution Studios, DriveClub is a racing simulation title that features social networking functionality to allow users to form racing groups and race with friends.
Sony this week detailed co-op mode for
Knack for the Playstation 4.
The two-player co-op mode will allow a second player to control Robo Knack. Robo Knack has a similar move set and can heal Knack. The second player includes drop-in, drop-out functionality.
In addition, Knack’s Quest, a new free mobile app puzzle title available for iOS and coming soon for Android, will allow users to unlock gadgets and relic parts for use in the PS4 title.
Sony this week said it will release MLB 14 The Show to the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and PS Vita in spring 2014.
The title will allow users to carry saves from prior MLB The Show titles, a Quick-Counts option for shorter games, and Road to the Show will feature a new advancement system, new intuitive player creation process, and all new pre-draft prospect showcase.
The PS4 SKU is said to offer a graphics leap with metal, wood, and steel material to relay an accurate sun reflection, detailed stadiums, and increased texture sizes.
Sony this week said the Playstation 3 has sold 80 million units worldwide as of Nov. 2013.
The hardware was released in 2006.
The PS3 and PS2 sold 1.1 million units combined in the three-month period between Apr. and June 2013.
It forecasts sales of 10 million PS3 units by fiscal Mar. 2014.
Sony this week said Capcom Co.’s Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen for the Playstation 3 free to the Playstation Plus division.
The title is now available at no cost for PS Plus members. It sells at $39.99 to non-members.
Aksys Games this week said it will release the BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Limited Edition SKU to Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 Mar. 2014.
The Limited Edition SKU will include a 40-page artbook, soundtrack CD, small figurine of Rachel Alucard and a bonus fourth item at $79.99.
BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, to be sold Mar. 25, includes new and redesigned characters, 30-hour story mode, traditional BlazBlue modes, and networking functionality for online battles.
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen includes a brand new underground realm to explore with 25 new enemies, more skills / equipments augments, more than 100 pieces of new equipment, increased character customizations and option to select the Japanese voice over track.
Sales for the Playstation Vita held steady in the latest sales data from Japan.
Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 27,618 units between Oct. 28 and Nov. 3 to rank as the No. 3 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 24,513 the week prior.
The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10 for the week, including Gundam Breaker at No. 7 and Chou Tsugitsugimono Game Neptune Re: Birth1 at No. 9.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 3,680 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.
Sony this week released PS Vita System Update 3.00.
The update allows the PS Vita to connect to the PS4 for Remote Play and Second Screen functionality.
Other new additions include the Parental Controls function at the home screen, Panoramic Camara setting, Friends application layout update, Messages application layout update, E-mail sync functionality to Gmail or Yahoo Mail, Content Manager to transfer data between the PS Vita and PS3, option to download updates automatically, and PS4 Trophy display functionality.
Media Molecule this week released the ‘A World of Paper’ Trailer for Tearaway for the Playstation Vita.
The trailer features developer commentary and touch gameplay functionality from the title.
Developed by Media Molecule, Tearaway, to be sold Nov. 22, is an new platform title that features the character iota in a dynamic paper-based world that can be controlled in various ways.
Sega Corp. this week said it will release Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F to the Playstation Vita in early 2014.
The PS Vita SKU will include the same songs and features of the Playstation 3 SKU.
The rhythm-based title features 38 tracks, the option to share and edit tracks, and the ability to customize Hatsune Miku with more than 90 different costumes and accessories.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware fell below 350 units in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 328 units between Oct. 28 and Nov. 3 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 351 units the week prior.
Microsoft this week released the Dashboard Trailer for the Xbox One console.
The trailer features a demonstration of the Xbox One interface including instant switching, biometric sign-in, Live TV, Skype, game DVR, OneGuide and more.
Microsoft this week said it will release post-launch Car Packs to Forza Motorsport 5 for the Xbox One.
Car packs will be released each month post launch and will include ten individual cars. The first pack will be sold Nov. 22, with new packs to be sold between Jan. and Mar. 2014.
Buyers can purchase individual cars a la carte, or purchase the Forza Motorsport Car Pass to access the first six car packs at $49.99.
Microsoft and Crytek Inc. this week said it will offer a Season Pass option for Ryse: Son of Rome for the Xbox One.
The Ryse: Son of Rome Season Pass will include four add-on packs with a total of 14 multiplayer maps, brand-new mode, six player skins, new level events, and access to new tier of weapons and armor at $19.99.
In addition, an in-game sword and shield with bonus attributes is included exclusively in the Season Pass.
Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said it sold more than $1 billion of Call of Duty: Ghosts product to U.S. retail.
In addition, the company said average player sessions for the title are longer than Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Modern Warfare 3 in the same period.
Call of Duty: Ghosts, developed by Infinity Ward, includes an all-new story, all-new characters, and a next-generation Call of Duty engine.
Rockstar Games’ this week released Title Update 1.05 to the Grand Theft Online component of Grand Theft Auto V.
The update is said to prevent users from losing their progress in a cloud outage, offer built-in measures to protect cash balances, prevent loss of online vehicles or mods after game exit.
Grand Theft Auto Online is a persistent online world for up to 16 players in which users can complete missions alone with friends and compete in traditional game modes.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware spiked in Japan following the release of a new bundle configuration that includes New Super Mario Bros. U and Wii Fit U.
Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 38,802 units between Oct. 28 and Nov. 3 to rank at No. 2 in overall sales.
It sold 2,598 units the week prior.
In addition, Wii Party U ranked No. 6 upon release to sell 37,371 units for the week.
The company Oct. 31 released the 32GB Deluxe Set Bundle with New Super Mario Bros. U, Wii Party U, Wii Karaoke Download Code, and Wii Remote Plus at 32,800 yen ($331) and the 32GB Deluxe Set Bundle New Super Mario Bros. U, Wii Fit U, Wii Karaoke Download Code, and Wii Remote Plus at 34,800 yen ($351).
The Wii sold 477 units in the same period.
Nintendo this week released new DLC for Pikmin 3 for the Wii U at the Nintendo eShop division.
The DLC includes four stages in the Battle Enemies mission type that can be in single player or cooperative mode.
It sells at $1.99.
Nintendo this week said Wii Sports Club Tennis and Bowling for the Wii U are now available for download at the Nintendo eShop division.
The first two sports – bowling and tennis – are available as free trial downloads. After the 24-hour trial period users can purchase a day pass for a 24-hour play session for all available sports or purchase the full individual sporting event at $9.99 each.
Nintendo this week said it will sell the Wii mini console at $99.99 by mid-Nov. at U.S. retail.
The console will features a new compact format, red Wii Remote Plus, Red Nunchuck Controller and Mario Kart Wii.
The Wii has sold more than 100 million units at global retail.
The Nintendo 3DS ranked as the top hardware in Japan due to strong demand for the handheld.
Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 88,376 units between Oct. 28 and Nov. 3 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 109,508 the week prior.
