Nintendo Co. this week recorded an incremental profit amid slow demand for the Wii U console.

Between Mar. and Sept. 2013, the company recorded a profit of $6.1 million. By comparison, it held a loss of $285.2 million in the same period the year prior.

It held an operating loss of $237 million. Nintendo cited advertising and R&D costs for Wii U software for the loss.

Nintendo sold 460,000 Wii U units between Mar. and Sept. 2013. It has sold 3.91 million units worldwide to date.

Wii U software sales totaled 19.71 million to date.

The company maintains a forecast of nine million Wii U hardware units sold by fiscal Mar. 2014.

Nintendo will release the Wii U Deluxe Set with New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U Nov. 1.

The Nintendo 3DS sold 3.89 million units in the same period. It has sold 34.98 million units worldwide to date. Nintendo 3DS software sales totaled 122.42 million units to date.

Nintendo will sell a new bundle that includes a limited-edition Nintendo 3DS XL handheld and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Nov. 22 at U.S. retail.
