Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS ranked as the top hardware in Japan due to strong demand for the handheld.

Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 154,578 units between Oct. 14 and Oct. 20 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 213,570 the week prior.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y sold 473,151 units to rank as the No. 1 software for the week. The software has sold 2.33 million units in the region in two weeks.

The Nintendo 3DS sold 1.4 million hardware units and 11.01 million software units in the quarter.

The company cited strong Q1 sales of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Nintendo in Sept. released the Nintendo 3DS XL Pokemon X & Y SKUs at $199.99.
