Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked second in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 10,232 units between Sept. 30 to Oct. 6 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,382 units the week prior.
The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate at No. 2, Armored Core: Verdict Day at No. 3, The Legend of Heroes at No. 4.
The head of Playstation 4 design at Sony this week said the initial concept was a departure from what became of the final hardware design.
Tetsu Sumii, the chief designer of the UX Platform Design Group, Sony said this week said the first concept was ‘totally different’ from the final hardware.
“I think about the horizontal, not just the vertical. I think about the 360 degree view. The reverse should be beautiful, too,” Sumii said to company publication Playstation Blog.
The PS4 will be sold at $399.99 Nov. 15.
Zombie Studios this week said Daylight for the Playstation 4 will include procedural environments and social functionality in the new next-gen horror title.
The first-person survival title, to be released in early 2014, will randomly generate level layouts and item locations.
In addition, players can use the Share feature to capture scares and share them with friends.
In Daylight, users wake up inside an abandoned hospital and must use the light on their cellphone to guide them through the environment. The phone will subsequently be used to map environments and as a communications device.
The final game will utilize the Unreal Engine 4.
Sony this week released Beyond: Two Souls for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.
Developed by Quantic Dream, Beyond: Two Souls is psychological thriller that spans 15 years of a character’s life. Actors in the title include Ellen Paige and Willem Dafoe.
Square Enix Holdings Co. this week said it will release Drakengard 3 for the Playstation 3 to the U.S. in 2014.
Developed by Access Games, Drakengard 3 is a prequel in the action RPG franchise.
The final game include ground and aerial combat.
Sony this week released Shadow of the Colossus for the Playstation 3 to Playstation Plus members at no cost.
The title is now available for download free for PS Plus members as part of the Instant Game Collection.
It typically sells at $19.99.
Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V for the Playstation 3 ranked as the top Playstation Network title in Sept.
For the month of Sept., Grand Theft Auto V ranked as the No. 1 best-selling PSN title.
Diablo III ranked at No. 2 and EA Sports FIFA 14 ranked third in the same period.
Aksys Games this week said it will release the BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Limited Edition SKU to the Playstation 3.
The Limited Edition SKU will include a 40-page artbook, soundtrack CD, small figurine of Rachel Alucard and a bonus fourth item.
BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, to be sold Mar. 25, includes new and redesigned characters, 30-hour story mode, traditional BlazBlue modes, and networking functionality for online battles.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 3,538 units between Sept. 30 and Oct. 6 to rank as the No. 5 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 6,031 the week prior.
The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10 for the week including The Legend of Heroes at No. 5 and Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate at No. 9.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 4,093 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.
Killzone: Mercenary for the Playstation Vita ranked as the top-selling title in the Playstation Network in Sept.
For the month of Sept., Killzone: Mercenary ranked as the No. 1 top-selling PS Vita in the PSN division.

Update 1.30 includes 16 new quests all at difficulty 10 and feature boss battle rematches.

Atlus Inc. this week said Dragon’s Crown for the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita will offer Cross-Play functionality in an upcoming update.
Cross-Play functionality will allow users to engage in cross-platform multiplayer between PS3 and PS Vita handhelds.
Developed by Vanillaware, Dragon’s Crown is a 2D action RPG that includes four-player co-op functionality.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware fell below 400 units in new retail data from Japan.
Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 354 units between Sept. 30 and Oct. 6 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 511 units the week prior.
Microsoft this week announced new vehicles to be included in Forza Motorsport 5 for the Xbox One.
New vehicles include the 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO and the 2011 Koenigsegg Agera.
Previously announced vehicles include the 2013 Audi S4, 1985 Ford RS200 Evolution, 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X GSR, 2009 Zonda Cinque Roadster, and the 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 4,001 units between Sept. 30 and Oct. 6 to rank at No. 4 in overall sales.
It sold 5,909 units the week prior.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD ranked at No. 10 for the week. It has sold 36,474 units in the region to date.
The Wii sold 914 units in the same period.
Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS and Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter 4 held the top sales ranks in Japan in Oct. retail data.
Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 122,987 units between Sept. 30 and Oct. 6 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 134,244 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked four titles in the top 10 including Monster Hunter 4 at No. 1 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf at No. 8.
Nintendo this week released a New Trailer for Wii Party U for the Wii U.
The trailer features new activities in the title, including Helicopters, Gourmet Cooking, Safari Jockeys, and Swimming.
Wii Party U, to be sold Oct. 25, will include a Wii Remote Plus controller and Horizontal Stand for the Wii U GamePad at $49.99.
