Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 11,382 units between Sept. 23 to Sept. 29 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 10,749 units the week prior.
Sony this week released Playstation 3 firmware update 4.50 that will address a problem incurred on select consoles.
The System Software Update features include auto-download of system software updates to support all Playstation Network users, auto-download support of purchases made on the Sony Entertainment Network online store to all PSN users, new options for Trophy privacy settings, and data transfer from the PS3 to the PS Vita via Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
Sony this week released the demo for Beyond: Two Souls for the Playstation 3 to the Playstation Network division.
Developed by Quantic Dream, Beyond: Two Souls is psychological thriller that spans 15 years of a character’s life. Actors in the title include Ellen Paige and Willem Dafoe.
The final game includes action and puzzle sequences that utilize unique controls.
It will be sold at U.S. retail Oct. 8.
Sony this week released Rain for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.
Developed at Japan Studio, Rain is a new adventure title in which users take the role of an invisible boy who can only be seen in the rain.
The digital title is sold at $14.99.
Amazon.com Inc. this week began offering a $30 Bonus Credit with the purchase of the Playstation 4 Dualshock 4 Controller with the trade in of $30 worth of video game product.
For a limited time, customers who trade in $30 worth of qualifying video games, consoles, or accessories, will receive a $30 Bonus Credit toward the purchase of the PS4 Dualshock 4 Controller.
The DualShock 4 controller will include a new touch pad, share button, options button, built-in mono speaker, headphone jack, and light bar that will interact with a optional PS4 Eye camera to track the controller.
Sony in Sept. released the Time Trial at Night for DriveClub for the Playstation 4.
The trailer demonstrated the day to night time transition featured in the final game while driving an Audi R8 V10 Plus.
Developed by Evolution Studios, DriveClub is a racing simulation title that features social networking functionality to allow users to form racing groups and race with friends.
Sony this week said EA Inc.’s Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is now available free as part of the Playstation Network Instant Game Collection.
The title is an single-player action RPG that typically sells at $19.99.
Atlus Inc. this week released Patch 1.03 for Dragon’s Crown for the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita.
Fixes includes improved online network stability, option to hide character marker, option to display character damage for controlled characters only, Amazon/Fighter equipment durability increased, Amazon balance adjustments, and other tuning and minor improvements.
Developed by Vanillaware, Dragon’s Crown is a 2D action RPG that includes four-player co-op functionality.

The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10 for the week including The Legend of Heroes at No. 2 and Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate at No. 8.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 4,805 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.
The hardware ranked five titles in the top 10, including Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate at No. 3, The Legend of Heroes at No. 4, and Armored Core: Verdict Day at No. 5.

Microsoft this week announced new vehicles to be included in Forza Motorsport 5 for the Xbox One.

Rockstar Games’ this week released the Grand Theft Online component of Grand Theft Auto V.
Grand Theft Auto Online is a persistent online world for up to 16 players in which users can complete missions alone with friends and compete in traditional game modes.
In addition, users can create a custom character, purchase a residence, or a buy garage to store cars, planes, and wave runners which can be used in competitive races.
Microsoft this week said it will release Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes and Halo 3 free to Xbox Live Gold members.
Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes will be available Oct. 1 to Oct. 15, and Halo 3 will be available Oct. 16 to Oct. 31.
The release is part of the Xbox Live Games for Gold program which offers two games a month at no cost to Xbox Live Gold members.

Nintendo this week announced a new Kirby title to be released to the Nintendo 3DS platform in 2014.
The new title is a side-scroller platform title that will allow Kirby to move between the foreground and background.
Atlus Inc. this week released Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl for the Nintendo 3DS to U.S. retail.
The dungeon-crawler includes a first-person Story Mode with five pre-made characters and new dungeon layouts and floors.
XSEED Games this week released Rune Factory 4 for the Nintendo 3DS to U.S. retail.
Rune Factory 4 is a dungeon adventure title that allows users to play as a male or female hero to fulfill royal duties or find a potential suitor.
Nintendo Co. this released the Gameplay Trailer for Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U.
The trailer features brand new level design, and new power-ups like Cherries and the option to carry a Piranha Plant to eat enemies.
Super Mario 3D World, to be sold Nov. 22, will include four-player simultaneous, co-op functionality, and new power-up items.
Nintendo this week said Sonic the Hedgehog will be playable character in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
