Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 is a fast third-person action title that offers wildly massive beat downs with a band of strange and lovable pirates.
Developed by Omega Force, the title is built with the framework of prior Dynasty Warriors which include the requirement to control portions of the level territory, assist allies, defeat generals, and defeat an end boss. A handy map with waypoints and territory information highlights all the action dynamically.
Control is tight and varied with multiple attack options. Users wield a standard and range attack, special move, and Style Action to activate a super move. When the Style Action meter is full, users can press R1 to execute a major attack, and subsequently a Crew Attack which will add an assist from another character.
The title features more than 35 characters from the franchise like Luffy, Sanji and Zoro to include a range of wild maneuvers which can obliterate a mass of enemies at a time.
Each level includes health pick-ups and coins which can be used to increase character attributes post level completion.
The graphics engine is standard at 30 to 60 frames-per-second. The title generally holds at 30 frames with a mass of on-screen enemies, but does increase to 60 in less populated areas. Characters feature a wealth of animation and super move segments that maintain the artistry of the animation.
The sound engine is solid with Japanese dialogue with subtitles throughout to keep the authenticity of the series.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 is a quick and nimble download title that offers fans and action buffs plenty to pummel. The title’s character upgrade options, tactical elements, and optional co-op offer would-be pirates a well-oiled crew to fight with.
