Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 11,743 units between July 29 to Aug. 4 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 11,900 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10 including Killer is Dead at No. 5, The Witch and the Hundred Knights at No. 6, and Dragon’s Crown at No. 10.

Pre-order sales for bundles that include the Playstation 4 sold out at Amazon.com Inc. this week due to strong demand.

This week, all PS4 Launch Bundles held a sold out status at Amazon’s Video Games division.

Bundles SKUs included the PS4 Knack Launch Day Bundle at $459.98, PS4 Killzone Launch Day PS Plus Bundle at $$499.00, PS4 Watch Dogs Launch Day Bundle at $459.98, and the PS4 Battlefield 4 Launch Day PS Plus Bundle at $499.00.

The retailer disclaimed Thurs. that stock was low for pre-order launch bundles that are guaranteed to be shipped on the hardware release date.

Atlus Inc. this week released Dragon’s Crown for the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita to U.S. retail.

Developed by Vanillaware, Dragon’s Crown is a 2D action RPG that includes four-player co-op functionality.

Sony this week said Shadow of the Colossus ranked as the top-selling Playstation 3 title in the Playstation Network division in July.

The title ranked as the No. 1-selling download title in the month of July.

The Last of Us ranked at No. 2 and Mortal Kombat ranked at No. 3.

Namco Bandai America Inc. this week released Tales of Xillia for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.

Tales of Xillia features two distinct heroes, real-time battles with a new dual-raid system, new locations, and enemies to battle.

Tales of Xillia for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 is an epic RPG with quick in-depth combat, multiple customization options, and a large cast of great characters in a FINAL Review.

Sales for the Playstation Vita ranked second in the latest retail data from Japan.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 17,702 units between July 29 and Aug. 2 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 14,392 the week prior.

The PS Vita ranked two titles in the top 10, including Mind/Zero at No. 7 and Dragon’s Crown at No. 9.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 6,314 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.

Sony this week said Mortal Kombat ranked as the top-selling Playstation Vita title in the Playstation Network division in July.

The title ranked as the No. 1 best-selling PS Vita download title in July.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes ranked at No. 2 and Hotline Miami ranked at No. 3 in the same period.

Sony this week released System Software Update 2.60 for the Playstation Vita.

The mandatory update includes the latest security patches, new and revised applications, features, and settings.

New features include easier access to Playstation Network servers to upload or download saved data, the option to play content saved on a connected device like the PS3 or PC without copying content to the PS Vita, and the option to use PS Vita buttons to customize the Home Screen.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this month began offering a rpe-order bonus with the purchase of Killzone: Mercenary for the Playstation Vita.

This week, customers who pre-order Killzone: Mercenary will receive Blackjack’s Briefcase, which includes an exclusive Double XP boost for Campaign and Multiplayer, and extra in-game cash to purchase a new weapon.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware held the No. 7 rank in new sales data from Japan.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 288 units between July 29 and Aug. 4 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 313 units the week prior.

Microsoft this week said the Xbox One will include a 4K HDMI cable to support the latest HDTV resolution technology and a Chat Headset.

The category 2 HDMI cable will include support for 1080p, 3D, and 4K television sets according to HDMI 1.4 specifications.

In addition, the hardware will include the Xbox One Chat Headset for wired microphone chat functionality.

Microsoft this week said an Xbox Live Gold subscription will be required to utilize select features in the Xbox One.

Features that require an Xbox Live Gold membership include the OneGuide to view the TV guide, Game DVR to record and upload game clips, Skype to chat with online friends, and SmartMatch to pair like players in online matches.

Microsoft this week released Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.

Developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by 505 Games, the title allows a single player to control two brothers simultaneously with left and right analog sticks to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles.

The title sells at 1,200 Microsoft Points as part of the Xbox Live Summer of Arcade program.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said it will release the Call of Duty: Black Ops II Apocalypse DLC to the Xbox Live division Aug. 27.

Apocalypse includes two all-new multiplayer maps (Pod, Frost), two re-imagined fan-favorite maps (Takeoff, Dig), and the Origins Zombies experience.

It will sell at 1200 Microsoft Points.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware held steady in the latest weekly Japan retail data.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 10,038 units between July 29 and Aug. 4 to rank at No. 4 in overall sales.

It sold 11,373 units the week prior.

Pikmin 3 held in the top 15, selling 10,342 units to total 145,735 units sold in Japan to date.

The Wii sold 1,327 units in the same period.

Nintendo this week released Animal Crossing Plaza for the Wii U to the Nintendo eShop division.

The new application is available to download for free and allows Animal Crossing fans to exchange information through the Animal Crossing Miiverse community. Players can import images they took in Animal Crossing: New Leaf for Nintendo 3DS, custom design QR Code patterns via their SD cards and organize them in albums. Users can post messages to Miiverse with those images.

Nintendo this week said Luigi will be playable character in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

The new entry, to be sold in 2014, will add new challengers, including the Village from Animal Crossing and Capcom Co.’s Mega Man.

Nintendo this week released the Director’s Trailer for The Wonderful 101 for the Wii U.

The trailer introduces a band of superheroes and features in-game action.

The Wonderful 101, to be sold Sept. 15, is an action title in which users control a mob of heroes to battle aliens in Blossom City.

Sega Corp. this week said it will release Sonic Lost World for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS Oct. 22.

Sonic Lost World is a brand new action platform title to be sold exclusively to Nintendo platforms.

The Wii U version will include Wii U Color Powers that can be controlled with the Wii U GamePad by tilt, touch, and aim. In addition, the title will include Off TV functionality and a two-player support mode.

The Nintendo 3DS held the No. 1 hardware rank in the latest Japan retail data.

Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 75,687 units between July 29 and Aug. 4 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 54,975 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked five titles in the top 10, including Bandai Namco Games’ Disney Magic Castle at No. 1, Capcom Co.’s Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies at No. 2 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team at No. 3.

Nintendo this week released the Launch Trailer for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for the Nintendo 3DS.

The Launch Trailer features elements from the final game including turn-based battles and new platform elements.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is an action RPG title that spans two worlds, including the real world and Luigi’s dream world.

Nintendo and Capcom Co. this week announced Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for the Nintendo 3DS.

The title will include Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright in a joint partnership to solve a brand new mystery.

The final game will combine puzzle and courtroom elements found in both franchises.

Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney will be released in 2014.
