Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 11,683 units between July 1 to July 7 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 12,554 units the week prior.
The hardware ranked four titles in the top 10, including Earth Defense Force 2025 at No. 1, Gundam Breaker at No. 4, and The Last of Us at No. 8.
Sony this week said The Last of Us for the Playstation 3 has sold 3.4 million units as of July 3.
The sales figure, which includes physical copies and digital downloads, was achieved in less than three weeks since launch of the title in global territories and ranks as the fastest-selling new software title in the history of the platform.
Namco Bandai America Inc. this week said it will release Tales of Xillia 2 exclusively to the Playstation 3 in 2014.
The title is set a year after the events of Tales of Xillia and will include branching paths to alter the storyline.
NIS America Inc. this week said it will release Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness for the Playstation 3 Oct. 8 in the U.S. and Sept. 27 in Europe.
The strategy title includes the trio from the first entry – Laharl, Etna, and Flonne in a brand new storyline.
Sony this week said it will release Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus to the Playstation 3 this holiday.
The new single-player epilogue is a traditional platform entry in the series that will feature new weapons and gadgets.
Retailer GameStop Corp. this week said pre-order sales for the Playstation 4 has sold out.
The retailer disclaims on its website that the PS4 is currently sold out. It differs customers to an email alert request form to be notified of future pre-order availability.
GameStop previously pre-sold the PS4 in stand-alone and bundle SKUs. Pre-orders began in June.
In addition, retailer Amazon.com Inc. has sold out of the PS4 Launch Edition SKU.
The PS4 Standard Edition is still available for pre-order.
Sony this week said customers who pre-order Killzone: Shadow Fall for the Playstation 4 will receive the Shadow Pack bonus.
The Shadow Pack will include the OWL Skin to give the OWN drone a custom appearance, MP Spotlight Move to access a special victory move in multiplayer sessions, and the Official Soundtrack to the title.
Killzone Shadow Fall, to be sold in Nov., is set thirty years after the events of the Killzone trilogy.
Silicon Studio this week released a Tech Demo Trailer for the YEBIS 2 development studio for the Playstation 4.
The trailer features a side-by-side comparison of YEBIS 2 post-processing effects on and off.
The middleware solution allows developers to deploy real-time post-processing to add visual effects like glare effects, depth-of-field, active color adjustment, and cross-platform compatibility.
Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said it will release the Call of Duty: Black Ops II Vengeance DLC to the Playstation 3 and the PC Aug. 1.
Uprising includes four new multiplayer maps – Cove, Detour, Rush and Uplink.
In addition, the DLC will include Buried, an extension to the Zombies component.
It will sell at $14.99.
Sales for the Playstation Vita held the No. 2 rank in the latest retail data from Japan.
Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 20,776 units between July 1 and July 7 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 31,271 the week prior.
The PS Vita ranked one title in the top 10, Toukiden at No. 2.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 5,768 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.
Sony this week said Devolver Digital’s Hotline Miami for the Playstation Vita ranked as the top-selling title in June for the platform.
In June, Hotline Miami ranked as the No. 1-selling PS Vita title at the Playstation Network.
Assassin’s Creed III Liberation ranked at No. 2 and Muramasa Rebirth ranked at No. 3 in the same period.
Sony this week began the Close Beta sign-up for Killzone: Mercenary for the Playstation Vita.
Through July 17, candidates can apply to be selected to participate in the closed beta.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware held the No. 7 rank in new sales data from Japan.
Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 313 units between July 1 and July 7 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 330 units the week prior.
Pre-order sales for the Xbox One Day One Edition SKU held the No. 1 rank at GameStop Corp.’s online division due to strong demand for the hardware.
This week, the Xbox One Day One Edition ranked as the No. 1 best-selling product in GameStop.com’s Pre-order division.
The No. 1 rank follows the sell-out of the Day One Edition SKU at Amazon.com Inc.’s Video Games division earlier this week.
The Xbox One will launch this Nov. in the U.S. at $499.99.
Rockstar Games this week released the Gameplay Trailer for Grand Theft Auto V.
The Gameplay Trailer features the option to switch between characters dynamically for gameplay and narrative variety, in addition to non-essential gameplay like car customization, deep sea diving, golfing, and hunting.
Microsoft this week announced a new wave of Summer of Arcade titles for the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.
Titles include Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons (Aug. 7; 1200 Microsoft Points), Charlie Murder (Aug. 14; 800 Microsoft Points), Flashback (Aug. 21; 800 Microsoft Points) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (Aug. 28; 1200 Microsoft Points).
Capcom Co. this week said it will release DuckTales Remastered to the Playstation 3, Wii U and the PC Aug. 13 at $14.99.
In addition, a PS3 retail SKU with download code and collector’s pin will be sold Aug. 20 at $19.99.
It will be released to the Xbox 360 Sept. 11.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware held a small gain in the latest weekly Japan retail data.
Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 8,251 units between July 1 and July 7 to rank at No. 4 in overall sales.
It sold 7,060 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.
The Wii sold 1,334 units in the same period.
Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U ranked as the top ‘Most Wished For’ game among Wii U titles at Amazon.com Inc.
This week, Super Mario 3D World ranked as the No. 1 ‘Most Wished For’ game title in Wii U game division.
Super Mario 3D World, to be sold in Dec., will include four-player simultaneous, co-op functionality, and new power-up items.
Ubisoft Inc. this week said there is no sequel planned for ZombiU, the launch title released to the Wii U last fall.
Yves Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of Ubisoft told GamesIndustry International that the title was not profitable and that there is no plans for a sequel.
The Nintendo 3DS held the No. 1 hardware rank in the latest Japan retail data.
Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 44,222 units between July 1 and July 7 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 50,712 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked three titles in the top 10, including Friend Collection: New Life at No. 5, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D at No. 7, and Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl at No. 10.
Atlus Inc. this week said customers who purchase Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem: Awakening for the Nintendo 3DS will receive a bonus $30 Nintendo eShop credit.
In the promotion, customers must register both titles to their Club Nintendo account by Aug. 31.
Shin Megami Tensei IV, to be sold July 16, is the successor to 2004’s Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.
