Sony Corp. this week release System Software v4.46 for the Playstation 3 to address an issue from a prior update that fails to display the XMB interface.

Users can manually download the latest system software, boot into Safe Mode, or update normally for consoles that can display the XMB.

Firmware update 4.45 was released in June and consumers subsequently held claims of ‘bricked’ consoles post install of the update.

Sony in Feb. said the game division held an operating profit of $49.3 million, down 86 percent from the year prior.

It sold 6.8 Playstation 3 and Playstation 2 consoles in the quarter, down from 7.4 million one year ago. It forecasts 16 million hardware units sold in the fiscal year ending Mar.

Console software sales declined to 61.7 million from 68.7 million one year prior.

Sony will release the Playstation 4 this holiday.
