Nintendo Co. this week released a new update to the Miiverse component of the Wii U hardware that offers additional functionality to the social component.

The update adds Twitter functionality to tweet Miiverse comments and increases the length of text posts.

Miiverse allows Wii U owners to write or draw live comments for game titles. In addition, users can ‘Yeah!’ to like select comments.

For the year ending Mar. 31, 2013, Nintendo held a net profit of $71.7 million, up from a $531 million loss the year prior.

In addition, it held an operating loss of $366 million for the fiscal year.

Nintendo sold 3.45 million Wii U consoles by Mar., lower than the four million target forecast. It expects the Wii U to sell nine million units by the next fiscal year and 38 million Wii U software units due to a strong second-half lineup.

New titles to be sold include Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD.
