Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked second in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 10,872 units between June 10 and June 16 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 10,394 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil Revelations at No. 6, which has sold 160,120 units to date.

Pre-order sales for Launch Day Bundles that include Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 dominated the sales ranks at Amazon.com Inc. post availability of the hardware SKUs.

This week, the PS4 Watch Dogs Launch Day Bundle ranked at No. 3, PS4 Battlefield 4 Launch Day PS Plus Bundle ranked at No. 4, and the PS4 Killzone Launch Day PS Plus Bundle ranked at No. 8 at Amazon’s Video Games division.

New bundles include the PS4 Knack Launch Day Bundle at $459.98, PS4 Killzone Launch Day PS Plus Bundle at $$499.00, PS4 Watch Dogs Launch Day Bundle at $459.98, and the PS4 Battlefield 4 Launch Day PS Plus Bundle at $499.00.

Game title pre-order sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 conquered the top 10 game sales at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division due to strong demand.

The PS4 ranked four titles in the top 10 game pre-order sales at BestBuy.com, including Call of Duty: Ghosts at No. 3, Battlefield 4 at No. 4, Watch Dogs at No. 5, and Killzone: Shadow Fall at No. 9.

Sony Corp. this month said the Playstation Plus service is required to play online multiplayer titles for the Playstation 4.

The premium service, which retails at $17.99 to $49.99, will be required to join online multiplayer sessions in titles like Killzone: Shadow Fall and EA Inc.’s Battlefield 4.

Exceptions include Free-to-Play titles like DC Universe Online, PlanetSide 2 and Warframe.

In addition, streaming content services like Netflix and social functionality like Share options will be available to all owners at no cost.

The Last of Us for the Playstation 3 ranked as a top-selling title at U.S. retail online divisions this week post release of the title.

This week, The Last of Us ranked as the No. 1 best-selling title at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division. In addition, it ranked as the No. 2 best-selling pre-order product at GameStop Corp.’s online division and Amazon.com Inc.’s online division.

The Last of Us includes survival and action elements amid abandoned cities decimated by a plague.

Sony this week released new game download products for the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita to the Playstation Store.

New PS3 digital products Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara at $14.99, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard at $9.99, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams at $14.99, and Storm at $9.99.

New PS Vita digital products include Jak & Daxter Collection at $26.99 and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two at $29.99.

Sales for the Playstation Vita held the No. 3 hardware rank in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 10,664 units between June 10 and June 16 to rank as the No. 3 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 9,733 the week prior.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 5,651 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.


Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware totaled below 400 units in new sales data from Japan.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 394 units between June 10 and June 16 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 432 units the week prior.

Microsoft this week changed the digital rights management restrictions for the Xbox One post consumer feedback of the prior policies.

Don Mattrick, President, Interactive Entertainment Business this week said the Xbox One will not require an internet connection to check in each 24-hour period or to play offline games.

In addition, users can trade-in, sell, and rent retail game titles.

The Xbox One Day One Edition Starter Bundle includes the Xbox One Day One Edition SKU and choice of game or accessory starting at $559.00.

Microsoft Corp. this week said the Xbox 360 ranked as the No. 2 game hardware in U.S. May 2013 sales figures.

The Xbox 360 sold 114,000 units to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the month in figures provided by NPD Group Inc.

Retail spend on the platform totaled $149.8 million for the month.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week said that pre-order sales for the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One broke records at the retailer amid pre-purchase availability of the new console hardware.

The company said at the peak of demand Amazon customers pre-order more than 2,500 PS4 and Xbox One consoles per minute.

In addition, E3 week PS4 and Xbox One pre-order sales held a 4,000 percent increase in year-over-year figures, and represented nearly two times that of all video game sales during Black Friday 2012.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said it will release the Call of Duty: Black Ops II Vengeance DLC to the Xbox Live division July 2.

Uprising includes four new multiplayer maps – Cove, Detour, Rush and Uplink.

In addition, the DLC will include Buried, an extension to the Zombies component.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware ranked fourth in latest weekly Japan retail data.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 5,983 units between June 10 and June 16 to rank at No. 4 in overall sales.

It sold 6,330 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.

The Wii sold 1,461 units in the same period.

Nintendo this week said it blames itself for slower-than-expected sales of the Wii U console.

Nintendo CEO and president Satoru Iwata this month told CNBC that limited marketing contributed to the lack of demand for the Wii successor.

Nintendo this week released New Super Luigi U DLC to the Wii U hardware.

The DLC sells at the Nintendo eShop at $19.99. The add-on requires a copy of New Super Mario Bros. U.

A stand-alone retail SKU will be sold Aug. 25 at $29.99.

This week, Animal Crossing: New Leaf ranked as the No. 1 best-selling title at GameStop.com.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf is a real-time simulation title that allows users to build a home, work and socialize with online friends.
