Retailer Inc. this week said that pre-order sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One broke records at the retailer amid pre-purchase availability of the new console hardware.

The company said at the peak of demand Amazon customers pre-order more than 2,500 PS4 and Xbox One consoles per minute.

In addition, E3 week PS4 and Xbox One pre-order sales held a 4,000 percent increase in year-over-year figures, and represented nearly two times that of all video game sales during Black Friday 2012.

The PS4 will be sold at $399.99 this holiday.
