Microsoft Corp. this week detailed the design philosophy behind the new Xbox One entertainment system.

The company said the hardware and software for the console were developed in tandem in a unified design language consistent with Modern UI products like Windows 8 and the Microsoft Surface.

Xbox One DashboardAs a result, the hardware is evenly divided with matte and gloss, and the vent panel edge matches a selected tile in the user interface.

In addition, liquid black is the color palette for the Xbox One brand and can be found and the console, Kinect, and the new controller in order to accentuate content.

Before the final design, the design team created 200 controller models, more than 100 versions of the Kinect sensor and dozens of console prototypes.

The Xbox One will utilize an 8-core CPU, 8GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, Blu-ray disc drive, 802.11n Wireless with Wi-Fi Direct, HDMI, and USB 3.0.

It will launch later this year.
