Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware ranked fifth in latest weekly Japan retail data.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 5,648 units between May 20 and May 26 to rank at No. 5 in overall sales.

It sold 6,037 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10 for the week, Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil Revelations, which sold 8,398 units at launch to rank at No. 10.

The Wii sold 1,192 units in the same period.

For the year ending Mar. 31, 2013, Nintendo held a net profit of $71.7 million, up from a $531 million loss the year prior.

In addition, it held an operating loss of $366 million for the fiscal year.

Nintendo sold 3.45 million Wii U consoles by Mar., lower than the four million target forecast. It expects the Wii U to sell nine million units by the next fiscal year and 38 million Wii U software units due to a strong second-half lineup.

Nintendo will release new franchise titles to drive Wii U sales, including a new Mario 3D title, Mario Kart, Mario Party, and The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker remake.
