Target Corp. this week price cut Nintendo Co.’s Wii U Basic Set SKU by 20 percent in a new online retail initiative.

This week, customers can the Wii U Basic Set at at $239.99, $60 off the $299.99 MSRP.

The Basic Set includes the Wii U console and the Wii U GamePad in White, 8GB storage, AC adapters, HDMI cable and Wii U sensor bar.

Nintendo in Apr. sold 3.45 million Wii U consoles by fiscal Mar. 2013, lower than the four million target forecast. It expects the Wii U to sell nine million units by the next fiscal year and 38 million Wii U software units due to a strong second-half lineup.

The company will release new franchise titles to drive Wii U sales, including a new Mario 3D title, Mario Kart, Mario Party, and The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker remake.

Nintendo released the Wii U, the successor the Wii hardware, to the U.S. market Nov. 18.
