Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 successor will include chips from Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
Bloomberg this week reported the Xbox 360 successor will utilize an AMD system-on-a-chip solution that combines ‘Jaguar’ CPU units with graphics chips.
By comparison, Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 will utilize similar architecture with an AMD chipset solution and an X86-based CPU.
Previous reports claimed the next Xbox will utilize 50GB capacity Blu-ray discs for games. Games will reportedly require activation codes to prevent second-hand usage.
In addition, the console is said to require an ‘always on’ internet connection in order to function.
The console is said to utilize an 8-core AMD CPU at 1.6Ghz and a D3D11.x GPU from an undetermined source. Hard drive capacity is to be determined.
Finally, an improved version of the Kinect sensor is said to launch with the next Xbox.
