Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 22,942 units between Mar. 18 and Mar. 24 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware 20,676 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked four titles in the top 10, including One Piece: Pirate Warriors #2, Pro Baseball Spirits 2013 at No. 3, Disgaea D2 at No. 7, and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX at No. 9.

Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC this week announced titles from independent developers to be released to the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and the Playstation Vita.

Indie titles to be released to the PS4 include Blacklight: Retribution and Primal Carnage: Genesis.

New titles for PS3 and the PS Vita include Divekick, Spelunky, Guacamelee!, Dragon Fantasy Book II, and Hotline Miami.

In addition, Sony announced new publishing options for indie developers, including a new self-publishing program and the PlayStation Pub Fund to provide back-end financial and marketing support to developers.

Konami Corp. this week announced Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Developed by Kojima Productions, the latest entry in the Metal Gear Solid franchise is a prequel that looks to focus on Big Boss.

A new trailer details various action sequences, including sneaking through a medical facility and horseback shooting.

Reloaded Productions this week said it will release APB Vendetta to the Playstation 4 and the PC.

The persistent multiplayer arena FPS is a companion title to APB Reloaded in which users choose one of 12 characters with connections to the APB Reloaded universe.

The title is said to include dual-wielding, slow-motion, melee combat and a combo system.

APB Vendetta will launch first to the PC, with long-range plans for a PS4 port.

U.S. retail stores this week began pre-order sales for Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3.

It holds a pre-order price of $39.99.

The remaster will include Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 updated with high-definition graphics.

Sony this week released Update 1.03 for God of War: Ascension.

The update includes extra health and magic orbs at the Trial of Archimedes section and new appearance features called Marks to add to custom characters.

God of War: Ascension, the a prequel to the God of War franchise, features Kratos prior to his consumption of rage when he breaks a blood-oath to an unjust god.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment this week said it will release the Injustice: Gods Among Us demo the first week of Apr.

The demo will include Batman, Wonder Woman, and Lex Luthor in a multi-tiered arena.

Atlus Inc. this week said it will release Dragon’s Crown to the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita in 2013.

Developed by Vanillware, Dragon’s Crown 2D action RPG that includes four-player co-op functionality.

The title includes six character classes – Fighter, Amazon, Elf, Sorceress, Wizard, and Dwarf – each of which include unique stats and abilities.

Sales for the Playstation Vita held the No. 2 hardware rank in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 41,073 units between Mar. 18 and Mar. 24 to rank as the No. 1 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 36,028 the week prior.

The PS Vita ranked two titles in the top 10, including One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 at No. 5 and Atelier Meruru Plus: The Alchemist of Arland 3 at No. 10.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware ranked last against rival hardware in new sales data from Japan.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 610 units between Mar. 18 and Mar. 24 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 543 units the week prior.

Gears of War: Judgment ranked as No. 12 at launch with 23,345 units sold.

Telltale Games and DC Entertainment this week said it will release The Wolf Among Us to the Playstation Network, Xbox Live and PC this summer.

The digital game is based on Bill Willingham’s comic book series ‘Fables’ and licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

The title will be set prior to the events of the Fables comic book series to introduce Bigby Wolf, later known as The Big Bad Wolf. The story takes classic fairy tale characters like The Three Little Pigs and Mr. Toad as they survive the mean streets of New York City.

EA Inc. this week released the 17-minute ‘Fishing in Baku‘ Trailer for Battlefield 4.

The trailer features a band of soldiers submerged in a vehicle and flashes back 15 minutes prior to reveal impressive indoor and outdoor warfare.

2K Games this week released Bioshock Infinite to consoles and the PC.

The title is a first-person shooter that includes a new protagonist hired to rescue a young woman said to be held in a sky city called Columbia.

Rockstar Games this week released new images from Grand Theft Auto V.

New images include the gatling gun weapon, scuba diving, skydiving, and new storm weather effects.

Grand Theft Auto V, to be sold Sept. 17, will include a middle-aged character who moves to a modern-day fictional Los Angeles and subsequently falls back into a life of crime.

Microsoft this week said it will release a new Xbox 360 Special Edition Camoflauge Controller exclusively to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. locations in May.

The wireless controller will feature a camoflauge print, transforming d-pad, and sell at $54.99.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware increased in the latest weekly Japan retail data.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 11,398 units between Mar. 18 and Mar. 24 to rank at No. 5 in overall sales.

It sold 9,539 units at launch the week prior.

The hardware ranked did not rank any software titles in the top 10 for the week.

The Wii sold 1,720 units in the same period.

The Nintendo 3DS held the No. 1 hardware rank in the latest Japan retail data.

Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 76,553 units between Mar. 18 and Mar. 24 to rank as the No. 2 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 69,439 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked three titles in the top 10, including Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon at No. 1, Animal Crossing: New Leaf at No. 6, and Pretty Rhythm: My Deco Rainbow Wedding at No. 8.

Nintendo this week released a new system update that offers new functionality to the handheld.

New features include a tool that allows users to transfer a game save from a physical copy of a game to the digital version.

In addition, users can now download items in the background when the handheld is in Sleep Mode.

Nintendo this week released Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for the Nintendo 3DS to U.S. retail.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is the follow-up to the 2001 release for the Nintendo GameCube.
