Sales Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 neared Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 in new Feb. U.S. retail data.

NPD Group Inc. this week said the PS3 sold 283,000 units in Feb. By comparison, the Xbox 360 sold 302,000 units in the same period.

The strong sales come amid the announcement of the Playstation 4 in Feb.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita ranked in the top 10 in Feb. U.S. sales in new data.

NPD Group Inc. this week said Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time ranked as the No. 9 best-selling software across all platforms in Feb.

The title includes an all-new adventure that features time travel and trademark action / adventure platform gameplay.

Sony this week released God of War: Ascension for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.

God of War: Ascension, the a prequel to the God of War franchise, features Kratos prior to his consumption of rage when he breaks a blood-oath to an unjust god.

The final game includes a revamped combat and weapon system, mini-games, and new puzzle challenges.

In addition, this week it released the Playstation 3 500GB God of War: Ascension Legacy Bundle to U.S. retail.

The bundle includes the 500GB Garnet Red PS3 hardware, God of War: Ascension, God of War Saga, and 30-day Playstation Plus trial membership at $349.99.

Sony this week said Joe Danger 2: The Movie is now available in the Instant Game Collection for Playstation Plus members.

The title includes a total of six acts (levels) to allow the veteran stuntman to recreate action-based movie scenes from mine cart racing to skiing from an avalanche, or jet-packing to safety.

The title typically sells at $14.99 at the Playstation Store.

Konami Corp.’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance ranked in the top five game sales at U.S. retail in Feb. in new data.

NPD Group Inc. this week said Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance ranked as the No. 5 best-selling software in Feb. across all hardware platforms.

Developed by Platinum Games, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance features Raiden in spectacular battles between soldiers and machines.

Microsoft this week said the Xbox 360 ranked as the top-selling game hardware in U.S. Feb. sales figures.

The Xbox 360 sold 302,000 units to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the month in figures provided by NPD Group Inc.

The sales figure marks the 26th consecutive month the hardware has ranked as the No. 1 video game hardware in the U.S.

Microsoft this week said Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II for the Xbox 360 ranked as the top Xbox Live title in the latest activity data.

In the new data, Call of Duty: Black Ops II ranked as the No. 1 Xbox Live title based on number of unique users for the week of Mar. 4.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition ranked at No. 2 and FIFA Soccer 13 ranked at No. 3 in the same period.

Microsoft this week said Minecraft ranked as the top-selling Xbox Live Arcade title in the latest sales data for the division.

For the week of Mar. 4, Minecraft ranked as the No. 1-selling Xbox Live Arcade title based on full versions purchased.

Pinball FX2 ranked at No. 2 and The Walking Dead ranked at No. 3 in the same period.

Microsoft this week said it will release the Castle Map Pack for Halo 4 Apr. 8.

The Castle Map Pack includes team objective and vehicular combat with three new maps and the addition of a new 6 vs. 6 playlist.

New maps include Daybreak, Outcast, and Perdition.

The Castle Map Pack will be sold at 800 Microsoft Points.

EA Inc.’s Dead Space 3 ranked as the top-selling title this week in new U.S. retail data.

NPD Group Inc. this week said Dead Space 3 sold 605,000 units across all platforms to rank as the No. 1 software title in Feb.

Dead Space 3 includes drop-in, drop-out co-op functionality for up to two players and battles against numerous large boss enemies.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U console climbed at U.S. retail for the month of Feb. but held behind rivals in new data.

EA Inc.’s Crysis 3 ranked in the top three software sales in Feb. in new U.S. retail data.

NPD Group Inc. this week said Crysis 3 ranked as the No. 3 best-selling software across all platforms in Feb.

Developed by Crytek GmbH, Crysis 3 features the Prophet in a New York City encased in a Nanodome.

NPD Group Inc. this week said the Wii U sold 66,000 units in the U.S. in Feb., a small gain from 57,000 units in Jan.

By comparison, the Xbox 360 ranked as the No. 1 game hardware for the month, while the Playstation 3 ranked second.

Nintendo this week said it will sell a new Pikachu Edition Nintendo 3DS XL handheld system to U.S. retail on Mar. 24.

The hardware will include a bold yellow color and a print of Pikachu and a 4GB SD Memory Card at $199.99.

The Nintendo 3DS XL includes a 4.88-inch main display, 90 percent larger the standard Nintendo 3DS.

A New York federal jury this week found Nintendo Co. infringed on a 2008 patent related to the use of glasses-free 3D technology found the popular Nintendo 3DS handheld.

Seijiro Tomita, the inventor, was awarded $30.2 million in compensatory damages.

Tomita claimed Nintendo infringed on his patent for use of 3D technology without the use of special glasses after he met with Nintendo in 2003 to discuss the technology.

Nintendo this week released new SpotPass bonus content to Fire Emblem Awakening for the Nintendo 3DS.

This week, it released a new map called ‘A Hard Miracle,’ which follows Chrom as he encounters a mysterious woman and embarks with her to rescue kidnapped villagers.

Future maps include ‘Ghost of Blade’ Mar. 28, a haunted tale about a ghost and the ultimate sacrifice; ‘The Wellspring of Trust’ Apr. 11, a map full of challenging enemies; and ‘The Radiant Hero’ on Apr. 25, which takes place on an island as Chrom and his allies search for a legendary hero.

Samsung Electronics Co. this week said the Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone will be sold in the U.S. in Apr.

The latest entry in the Galaxy S series includes a new 5-inch full-HD Super AMOLED display at 441ppi, 13MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 2GB RAM, 16 – 64GB storage, 2,600mAh removable battery, and Google Inc.’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.

In addition, the U.S. hardware will include the 1.9Ghz Quad-Core Snapdragon Fusion Pro and International SKUs will include a 1.6Ghz Octa-Core Exynos 5 Octa.

The phone at 5.38 x 2.71 x 0.31 inches and 4.6 ounces is slightly smaller and lighter than the Galaxy S3.

New software features include Smart Pause to pause video by looking away from the screen, Smart Scroll to move through emails and web pages with a hand wave, S Voice Drive for drive-specific commands, Air View to hover a finger over content and receive a preview and Air Gesture to control functions without touching the screen.

The phone will be sold through Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint in addition to Cricket and U.S. Cellular.

Retailer Inc. this week price cut the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch SKU and 4G LTE SKUs to as low as $269.00 post release of the tablet.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch SKU now holds a standard price of $269.00, down from the previous $299.00 MSRP.

In addition, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch 4G LTE SKU now sells at $399.00, down from the prior $499.00 MSRP.

The Kindle Fire HD was released in late 2012 as a low cost tablet with a full high-definiton display and access to Amazon services, including Movies, Books and the App Store.

It is sold in 16GB and 32GB SKUs with and without Special Offers advertisements.
