Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported the PS3 sold 25,725 units between Feb. 25 and Mar. 3 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware 18,529 units the week prior.
Tecmo Koei Corp.’s Dynasty Warriors 8 ranked as the No. 1 title for the week selling 203,224 units at launch, while Bandai Namco Games Inc.’s Macross 30 ranked at No. 6 in the same period.
Ubisoft Inc. this week said it will release Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to the Playstation 4 in addition to the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and the PC.
The open world will include 50 locations to conduct pirate assassin activity to command a ship, the Jackdaw. In addition, users can pillage enemy ships to upgrade the Jackdaw with ammunition, equipment and disguises.
Toys R Us Inc. this month launched a new information page for Playstation 4 at its online division to provide information about the new hardware to customers.
The new page provides general information about PS4 hardware including the Dualshock 4 controller and the Playstation Camera.
Sony this week released MLB 13 The Show for the Playstation 3 to U.S. retail.
MLB 13 The Show is the latest entry in the No. 1-selling MLB video game franchise.
The title includes an all-new Playoff Mode, revamped Franchise and Road to the Show Modes, all-new Beginner Mode, and cross-saving functionality between the PS3 and PS Vita SKUs.
Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 is a solid entry in the fight franchise that includes new inventory options and epic battles against a strong storyline in a FINAL Review.
Sales for the Playstation Vita spiked in the latest retail data from Japan post price cut of the handheld.
Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 62,543 units between Feb. 25 and Mar. 3 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,456 the week prior.
Sony this week said Journey led game sales for the Playstation Network division in Feb. 2013 U.S. data.
Journey ranked as the No. 1 PSN and PS3 Full Games in Jan. The top five titles included NBA 2K13 at No. 2, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Decade Duel Plus at No. 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II at No. 4 and Dead Space 3 at No. 5.
Top PS3 Add-Ons included Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Revolution and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dragonborn.
The PS Vita ranked two titles in the top 10 for the week including Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus: Otome Shoujotachi no Shoumei at No. 3 and Phantasy Star Online 2: Special Package at No. 7.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 11,171 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.
Sony this week said Urban Trial Freestyle ranked as the top-selling Playstation Vita title at the Playstation Network in Jan. 2013.
Urban Trial Freestyle ranked No. 1 in sales for the month, followed by Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, at No. 2, Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken at No. 3, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale at No. 4, and Persona 4 Golden at No. 5.
Top PSP titles for the month include Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Edition at No. 1, Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy at No. 2, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions at No. 3.
Konami Corp. this week said exclusive VR Missions for Metal Gear Rising for the Playstation 3 will be released Mar. 12.
The PS3 exclusive DLC VR Missions will add 30 all-new missions to the game that feature combat training, tactical maneuvering, stealth-based approaches, and the ability to control Dwarf Gekko.
It is available to download at no cost through Apr. 3.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware held below 500 units in new sales data from Japan.
Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 486 units between Feb. 25 and Mar. 3 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 473 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any software in the top 10 game sales.
Capcom Co. this week said Lost Planet 3 will be sold June 25 at U.S. retail.
Lost Planet 3 is a prequel to first two installments and will take place in the icy conditions of E.D.N. III.
Microsoft this month released the new Xbox 360 Spring Value Bundle to U.S. retail.
The Xbox 360 Spring Value Bundle includes the Xbox 360 250GB hardware, Darksiders II and Batman: Arkham City, Xbox 360 Wireless Controller and Headset, and Xbox Live Gold 1-Month Subscription at $299.99.
Square Enix Co Ltd. this week released Tomb Raider to U.S. retail.
Tomb Raider is a reboot of the franchise that tells the origin story of Lara Croft.
The title includes physics-based action in stealth, survival, melee, and ranged combat.
Capcom Co. this week released the Infernal Mode Trailer for Resident Evil Revelations.
The trailer features the new Infernal Mode difficulty setting which includes increased difficulty and remixed enemy and item placement.
Capcom Co.’s DmC: Devil May Cry: Virgil’s Downfall DLC is a distinct DLC download that provides alternate yet complimentary gameplay that dives into the mind of Dante’s antagonist brother Virgil in a FINAL Review.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware ranked fifth in weekly Japan retail data.
Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 10,021 units between Feb. 25 and Mar. 3 to rank at No. 5 in overall sales.
It sold 9,633 units at launch the week prior.
The hardware ranked did not rank any software titles in the top 10 for the week.
The Wii sold 1,383 units in the same period.
Nintendo this week released firmware version 2.1.3 to the Wii U owners in new update.
The update is said to deploy further enhancements to overall system stability.
Nintendo will release a larger update in Apr. to address consumer requests, including faster launch of software and a faster return to the Wii U Menu.
Sales for the Nintendo 3DS held steady in Japan in weekly retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 77,439 units between Feb. 25 and Mar. 3 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 74,729 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked four titles in the top five, including Professor Layton and the Legacy of Civilization A at No. 1 and Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission at No. 4.
