Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita spiked in the latest retail data from Japan post price cut of the handheld.
Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 62,543 units between Feb. 25 and Mar. 3 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,456 the week prior.
The PS Vita ranked two titles in the top 10 for the week including Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus: Otome Shoujotachi no Shoumei at No. 3 and Phantasy Star Online 2: Special Package at No. 7.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 11,171 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.
Sony in Feb. decreased the PS Vita 3G SKU to 19,980 yen, $110 off the previous 29,980 yen price.
The company in Feb. said the game division held an operating profit of $49.3 million in the third quarter, down 86 percent from the year prior.
The Playstation Vita and PSP sold 2.7 million units combined in Q3. However, the company slashed shipment forecasts for the handhelds to seven million units by the end of fiscal Mar., down from a forecast of 16 million units.
Handheld software sales fell to 8.9 million from 11.4 million.
