Capcom Co.’s DmC: Devil May Cry: Virgil’s Downfall DLC is a distinct DLC download that provides alternate yet complimentary gameplay that dives into the mind of Dante’s antagonist brother Virgil.
Virgil’s Downfall takes place immediately after the events of DmC with Virgil in a mission of self-discovery in Purgatory.
Virgil plays like a fully unique character utilizing only a lengthy sword with expert finesse, a welcome counterpart to the Dante’s no-holds-barred fighting style. Like DmC, users can upgrade a range of melee options slice and dice enemies, including some brand new goons and bosses.
New moves include teleportation to enemies as opposed to Dante’s grapple, and the ability to summon a Doppelganger to beam in and out to support Virgil.
Level design is less dynamic in the DLC, with little change to environments compared to the shifting world of Limbo. The six missions provide users with plenty to learn in both gameplay and the complexity of twin brother Virgil.
The graphics engine is solid at 30 frames-per-second. Virgil’s distinct battle animations and new enemies offer a stylish extension to the franchise. Sound and voice work is strong and on par with DmC.
DmC: Devil May Cry: Virgil’s Downfall is worthy DLC product that offers a well-executed extension to the new reboot. With new ways to batter enemies and an intriguing character, Virgil takes the spotlight and holds up well in the underworld.
