Sony Corp. this week began offering free titles for the Playstation Vita to owners in a new anniversary sale promotion.

Through Mar. 11, PS Vita owners can download four titles at no cost, including Wild Arms, Patapon, Piyotama, and Patchwork Heroes.

In addition, select PS Vita games have been discounted by 30 percent, while Playstation Plus members will receive a 50 percent discount.

Sony in Feb. said the game division held an operating profit of $49.3 million in the third quarter, down 86 percent from the year prior.

The Playstation Vita and PSP sold 2.7 million units combined in Q3. The company slashed shipment forecasts for the handhelds to seven million units by the end of fiscal Mar., down from a forecast of 16 million units.
