Sony Corp. this week said it will release new applications for the Playstation Vita this spring.
Friend Network is a social application for the PS Vita that allows users to employ avatars and meet in lobbies and exchange virtual business cards. The application includes integrated Facebook and Twitter functionality to add friends participating in Friend Network.
Imaginstruments is a musical composition tool that allows users to create new songs from scratch. The interface is said to allow non-musicians to create music easily and the final product includes a Sequencer Mode.
Sony in Feb. said the game division held an operating profit of $49.3 million in the third quarter, down 86 percent from the year prior.
The Playstation Vita and PSP sold 2.7 million units combined in Q3. However, the company slashed shipment forecasts for the handhelds to seven million units by the end of fiscal Mar., down from a forecast of 16 million units.
Handheld software sales fell to 8.9 million from 11.4 million.
