Sony Corp. this week price cut Playstation Vita in Japan following a lowered sales forecast for the struggling handheld.

This week, the company decreased the PS Vita 3G SKU to 19,980 yen, $110 off the previous 29,980 yen price.

Sony in Feb. said the game division held an operating profit of $49.3 million in the third quarter, down 86 percent from the year prior.

The Playstation Vita and PSP sold 2.7 million units combined in Q3. However, the company slashed shipment forecasts for the handhelds to seven million units by the end of fiscal Mar., down from a forecast of 16 million units.

Handheld software sales fell to 8.9 million from 11.4 million.
