Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked second in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.

Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 18,322 units between Jan. 21 and Jan. 27 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware 19,697 units the week prior.

Square Enix Holdings Co. Ltd.’s Hitman: Absolution ranked at No. 8 selling 22,233 units at launch.

EDGE Magazine this week claimed the Playstation 4, code-named Orbis, will include 4GB of GDDR5 RAM that can move data at 176 gigabytes per second, compared to the next Xbox with 8GB of DDR3 RAM. The publication’s source claims Sony may match the latter’s 8GB capacity in the final hardware.

Both consoles are said to utilize an 8-core AMD CPU at 1.6Ghz, with Sony utilizing an AMD R10XX GPU and Microsoft a D3D11.x GPU from an undetermined source.

A source told the publication Sony’s hardware is slightly more powerful and simple to work with.

The trailer features live action footage of a woman and girl that turn to ashes while Kratos stands before an impending army of foes.

God of War: Ascension, which is a prequel to the God of War franchise, will feature Kratos prior to his consumption of rage when he breaks a blood-oath to an unjust god.

The PS Vita sold 9,748 units between Jan. 21 and Jan. 27 to rank as the No. 5 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 9,036 the week prior.

The hardware did not ranked two titles in the top 10 for the week, including Demon Gaze at No. 4 and Genkai Totsuki Monster Monpiece at No. 6.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 12,897 units to rank at No. 4 in the same period.

Sony this week said it will release Killzone: Mercenary to the Playstation Vita Sept. 17.

The title will include shooting and close-combat first-person action in nine single-player paid-job scenarios.

In addition, the title includes multiplayer functionality for up to eight players with six maps and three game types.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware totaled near 600 units in new sales data from Japan.

Media Create Co. this week reported that the Xbox 360 sold 611 units between Jan. 21 and Jan. 27 to rank No. 6 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 706 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any software in the top 10 game sales.

Microsoft Corp. this week released the Halo 4 Spartan Ops Episode 7 DLC – Invasion.

Through Feb. 24., the company will release Episodes 6 to 10 which continues the ends the story of the UNSC Infinity.

Episodes 1 – 6 are available now.

GameStop Corp. this week announced a new pre-order bonus for Gears of War: Judgment for the Xbox 360 which offers early access to the a mode from the multiplayer component.

GameStop Power Up customers who pre-order Gears of War: Judgment will receive access to the OverRun Mode Mar. 15, three days prior the public release on Mar. 19.

In addition, multiplayer XP accrued during the preview period will carry over to the final game to customers who purchase the title within the first week of release.

Gears of War: Judgment, to be sold Mar. 19, is set years prior to the events of the Gears of War trilogy.

Rockstar Games this week said it will release Grand Theft Auto V Sept. 17.

The title was previously scheduled to be sold in the spring.

The developer cited additional development time required to polish the final product.

Grand Theft Auto V will include a middle-aged character who moves to a modern-day fictional Los Angeles and subsequently falls back into a life of crime.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii U sold 13,746 units between Jan. 21 and Jan. 27 to rank No. 3 in overall sales.

It sold 16,654 units at launch the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 for the week.

The Wii sold 2,093 units in the same period.

Nintendo this week cut its sales forecast for the fiscal year amid slower-than-expected sales for the new Wii U console.

The company cut its sales forecast for the fiscal year ending Mar. by 17 percent to $7.38 billion.

Nintendo sold 3.06 million Wii U units through Dec. 2012. It cut its Wii U sales forecast to four million units, down from a previous estimate of 5.5 million units. Wii U software sales were cut one-third to 16 million units.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS held as the top hardware Japan in weekly retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 75,124 units between Jan. 21 and Jan. 27 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 81,855 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked two titles in the top 10 including Animal Crossing: New Leaf at No. 2 and New Super Mario Bros. 2 at No. 10.

Nintendo cut sales projections for the Nintendo 3DS to 15 million units from 17.5 million units. It has sold 29.84 million 3DS units to date.

The company posted a profit of $160 million for the first nine months to Dec. By comparison the company recorded a $531 million loss the year prior. It reported revenue of $5.9 billion, down from $6.1 billion the year prior. Finally, the company’s operating loss narrowed to $64.4 million from $180.4 million one year prior.

Capcom Co. this month said Resident Evil 6 for the PC will include an exclusive mode in addition to post-launch updates released for the console SKUs.

The Resident Evil 6 PC SKU will include the exclusive The Mercenaries: No Mercy mode which features more on-screen enemies to rack up higher combo scores.

In addition, the release will include post-launch updates released to consoles, including the Ada Wong campaign and in-game camera adjustments.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week released Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Enhanced Edition as a digital download title for the PC.

The release includes controls and graphics optimized specifically for the PC and includes many DLC items released for the console versions.

It is available via Steam, Impulse and at $34.99.
