Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked second in Japan in the latest retail figures for the region.

Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 19,697 units between Jan. 14 and Jan. 20 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware 22,991 units the week prior.

Capcom Co.’s DmC: Devil May Cry ranked as the No. 1 title, selling 110,429 copies for the week.

U.S retailers this week began pre-order sales for the Playstation 3 500GB Classic White Bundle prior to release of the new hardware bundle.

The hardware bundle, to be sold Jan. 27, will include the PS3 500GB Classic White hardware, Playstation Plus Instant Game Collection and one-year membership to Playstation Plus at $299.99.

The Playstation Plus Instant Game Collection includes a revolving library of PS3 titles including LittleBigPlanet 2, inFAMOUS 2, and Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One.

Sony this week began holding a new 13 for ’13 Sale at the Playstation Network division.

The sale discounts 13 Playstation 3 game titles and 13 full SD and HD movies through Jan. 28.

Sony this week said it will release the God of War: Ascension demo for the Playstation 3 in Feb.

God of War: Ascension, which is a prequel to the God of War franchise, will feature Kratos prior to his consumption of rage when he breaks a blood-oath to an unjust god.

The final game will include a revamped combat and weapon system, mini-games, and new puzzle challenges.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week said it will release One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 to the Playstation 3 in summer 2013.

Developed by Tecmo Koei Games Co. Ltd. and based off the One Piece manga, is a tactical action title that will feature Luffy, Sanji, Zoro and the Straw Hat crew as they conquer islands of New World.

The sequel is said to include brand new characters, including Eneru.

EA Inc. this week said the Crysis 3 Multiplayer Beta will be available for the Playstation 3 Jan. 29.

The beta, to last between Jan. 29 and Feb. 12, will include Hunter Mode and Crash Site Mode, with maps including Museum and Airport.

Developed by Crytek GmbH, Crysis 3 will feature the Prophet in a New York City encased in a Nanodome. The Liberty Dome will include seven distinct environments from trees, swamplands, and rivers, in which the Prophet must utilize new weapons and tactics to survive.

Sony this week announced the Survival and Post-Pandemic Edition SKUs The Last of Us for the Playstation 3.

The Survival Edition will include the Steelbook Edition of the game, Artbook, The Last of Us – American Dreams #1 Comic, Sights and Sounds DLC Pack, and Naughty Dog Sticker Sheet at $79.99.

The Sights & Sounds Pack includes the official game soundtrack, PS3 Dynamic Theme, and PSN Avatars.

The Post-Pandemic Edition will include a 12-inch Premium Statue, Steelbook Edition of the game, The Last of Us – American Dreams #1 Comic, Survival DLC Pack, Sights and Sounds DLC Pack, and Naughty Dog Sticker Sheet at $159.99 at GameStop.

The Survival Pack DLC Pack includes Bonus Experience Points, Multiplayer Melee Attack Booster, In Game Currency for Multiplayer Characters, Customizable Items for Multiplayer, and Bonus Skins for Joel and Ellie.

Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita declined in the latest retail data from Japan.

The PS Vita sold 9,036 units between Jan. 14 and Jan. 20 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 11,088 the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 15,343 units to rank at No. 4 in the same period.

Wired Productions this week said it will release Let’s Fish! Hooked On to the Playstation Vita Jan. 29.

Developed by SIMS, the fishing simulation title includes realistic fishing action with arcade-style gameplay.

The title includes various modes, from World Tour, Challenge, Training to Underwater Mode.

The final game will feature nine different fish and 240 lures in 11 outdoor stages.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware totaled near 700 units in new sales data from Japan.

Media Create Co. this week reported that the Xbox 360 sold 706 units between Jan. 14 and Jan. 20 to rank No. 6 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 921 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any software in the top 10 game sales.

Microsoft this week recorded slower Xbox 360 sales in the second quarter pending release of the next Xbox hardware.

The company said it shipped 5.9 million Xbox 360 consoles in the second fiscal quarter, a decline from 8.2 million units the year prior.

The Entertainment and Devices division, which include the Xbox business, recorded revenue of $3.8 billion, a 11 percent decline from one year ago.

Operating income increased 15 percent to $596 million.

Microsoft this week said Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 lead all Xbox Live activity in 2012.

In the new data, Call of Duty: Black Ops II ranked as the No. 1 Xbox Live title based on number of unique users.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ranked at No. 2 and Halo 4 ranked at No. 3 for the year.

In addition, Minecraft ranked as the top-selling Xbox Live Arcade title for the year of 2012.

Capcom Co. this week said it will release the Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen for the PS3 and Xbox 360 Apr. 23 in the U.S. and Apr. 26 in Europe.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen includes a brand new underground realm to explore with 25 new enemies, more skills / equipments augments, more than 100 pieces of new equipment, increased character customizations and option to select the Japanese voice over track.

The title will be sold as a physical disc at retail and as a digital download at $39.99.

Amazon.com Inc. this month began offering a $20 bonus with the purchase of EA Inc.’s Dead Space 3.

Customers who pre-order Dead Space 3 will receive a $20 Amazon.com Credit towards a future purchase at no additional cost.

In addition, pre-order customers will receive the exclusive Tesla Enervator Gun and the Limited Edition SKU which includes two bonus suits and two weapons.

Dead Space 3 will be sold Feb. 13, 2013.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware ranked third in new Japan retail data.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii U sold 16,654 units between Jan. 14 and Jan. 20 to rank No. 3 in overall sales.

It sold 20,715 units at launch the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, New Super Mario Bros. U at No. 9.

The Wii sold 2,199 units in the same period.

Nintendo this week announced new titles in development for the Wii U hardware.

The company said it will release a new version of Mario Kart to the Wii U. In addition, a new Yoshi side-scroller that features cloth-like graphics similar to Kirby’s Epic Yarn is in development for the console.

Also, the company is in development on a new Party title that will utilize functions of the Wii U GamePad, including shaking the controller to roll dice.

Nintendo said it will launch two new system updates for the Wii U, one in the spring and one in summer. The updates will address consumer requests including faster launch of software and a faster return to the Wii U Menu.

Nintendo this week announced it will release The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker to the Wii U.

The title, released to the GameCube in 2006, will feature the entry’s trademark cel-shading in updated high-definition graphics and new Wii U GamePad functionality.

In addition, Nintendo said it is in development on a brand new entry in the Zelda franchise that will rethink the conventions of the series.

Capcom Co. this week said it will release Resident Evil Revelations to the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and the PC May 21 in the U.S. and May 24 in Europe.

The console and PC versions will include enhanced HD graphics, online Raid Mode co-op functionality, Hunk playable character in Raid Mode, a new enemy, new Raid weapons and new Custom Parts to outfit weaponry.

The survival horror title will be sold at retail at $49.99. In addition, it will be sold digitally at launch to the PS3 and the PC, with Xbox 360 and Wii U digital releases to be sold post launch.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS held as the top hardware Japan in weekly retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 81,855 units between Jan. 14 and Jan. 20 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 92,661 the week prior.

The 3DS ranked six titles in the top 10 including Animal Crossing: New Leaf at No. 2, New Super Mario Bros. 2 at No. 4, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate at No. 5.
