Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 held strong through the new year in Japan in the latest retail figures.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 22,991 units between Jan. 7 and Jan. 13 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware 64,352 units the week prior.
Koei Tecmo Corp.’s Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 PS3 SKU ranked as the No. 7 best-selling title for the week.
Sony this week said it will sell the Playstation 3 500GB Classic White Bundle in the U.S. and Canada Jan. 27.
The hardware bundle will include the PS3 500GB Classic White hardware, Playstation Plus Instant Game Collection and one-year membership to Playstation Plus at $299.99.
Bethesda Softworks this week said it will release all post-release DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to the Playstation 3 in Feb.
DLC content includes Dragonborn, Hearthfire, and Dawnguard.
The publisher said each add-on will be sold at 50 percent off during launch week on the Playstation Network.
Pre-order sales for Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch for the Playstation 3 ranked as the top pre-order product at Amazon.com Inc. due to strong demand.
This week, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch ranked as the No. 1 best-selling pre-order product at Amazon.com’s Video Games division.
Developed by Level-5 and Studio Ghibli, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, to be sold Jan. 22, is a role-playing title in which a young boy who loses his mother traverses between the real world and the fantasy world when a doll passed on from his mother comes to life.
Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week began offering a $10 bonus with the pre-order purchase of God of War: Ascension for the Playstation 3.
This week, customers who pre-order God of War: Ascension will receive a $10 Amazon.com Credit at no additional cost.
God of War: Ascension, which is a prequel to the God of War franchise, will feature Kratos prior to his consumption of rage when he breaks a blood-oath to an unjust god.
Sony this week released the 2014 Corvette Stingray DLC for Gran Turismo 5 for the Playstation 3.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray DLC, developed by Polyphony Digital and Chevrolet, is available at no cost.
Sales for the Playstation Vita climbed in latest holiday retail data from Japan.
The PS Vita sold 11,088 units between Jan. 7 and Jan. 13 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 33,309 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 54,873 units to rank at No. 4 in the same period.
Sony Corp. this week said it will release escapeVector for the Playstation Vita in the Playstation Network division Jan. 22.
Developed by Nnooo, escapeVector, is an action puzzle title in which users must help Vector escape from inside a CPU. Users must trace a grid of connected lines to unlock an exit. Along the grid are enemy obstacles that must be avoided or trapped.
The title will be sold at $9.99 and at 20 percent off for Playstation Plus members.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware totaled under 1,000 units in new sales data from Japan.
Media Create Co. this week reported that the Xbox 360 sold 921 units between Jan. 7 and Jan. 13 to rank No. 6 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 1,893 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any software in the top 10 game sales.
Microsoft this week began offering Xbox Live region migration to subscribers.
The service allows users to migrate their Xbox Live account to a different region and preserve the account’s gamerscore, Achievements, digital content, and Microsoft Points during transfer.
Microsoft Corp. this week said Halo 4 Spartan Ops: Season One DLC will return Jan. 21.
Between Jan. 21 and Feb. 24., the company will release Episodes 6 to 10 which continues the ends the story of the UNSC Infinity.
Episodes 1 – 5 are available now.
The new Spartan Ops mode extends the campaign experience with new weekly downloadable episodes to be played solo or in co-op.
Microsoft this week said Minecraft ranked as the top-selling Xbox Live Arcade title in the latest sales data for the division.
For the week of Dec. 31, Minecraft ranked as the No. 1-selling Xbox Live Arcade title based on full versions purchased.

The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10, New Super Mario Bros. U at No. 8 and Nintendo Land at No. 9.

Nintendo this week detailed new product releases to drop in the first quarter for the Wii U console.
The publisher will release a new Wii U GamePad Accessory Set Feb. 4. The set includes a Wii U GamePad Screen Protector, extra large stylus and cleaning cloth for $12.99.
Game releases in Q1 include Rayman Legends Feb. 26, LEGO City: Undercover Mar. 18, Need for Speed Most Wanted Mar. 19, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Mar. 19, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Mar. 26 and Aliens: Colonial Marines in Q1.
