Sony Corp. this week announced the Xperia Z smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV.

The Xperia Z smartphone features a 5-inch Full HD 1080p 443 dpi display, Snapdragon S4 quad-core 1.5Ghz CPU, 13MP camera, HDR video, NFC technology, 4G LTE functionality, and the Android 4.1 OS.

Xperia ZThe display includes Bravia Mobile Engine 2 technology for super brightness and clarity. In addition the 13MP camera features Exmor RS for mobile with High Dynamic Range video.

Finally, a Battery Stamina mode is said to improve battery life by four times or more by automatically shutting off battery-draining apps.

The Xperia Z feels like a premium device with a glass front and back. The 1080p resolution offered crisp text from the Chrome browser and the waterproof chasis worked as advertised.

The Xperia Z will be sold in Q1 2013.
