Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. this week demonstrated the Ascend Mate smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV.

The Ascend Mate features the largest smartphone screen to date at 6.1-inches. The handset held a solid build and a sleek profile.

Huawei-Ascend-MateThe 1280 x 720 screen relayed sharp video and text throughout, though the LCD color saturation is lighter than the industry-leading Super AMOLED technology.

The Emotion UI in the demo unit was sparse and the Android overlay did not impede the quickness of the quad-core 1.5Ghz CPU.

Other features include a 13MP camera, 4050mAH battery, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.

The product trumps Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s Galaxy Note II as the largest screen smartphone to date. The Note II includes a 5.55-inch Super AMOLED screen at 720p resolution.

The Ascend Mate will ship in China in Jan. and other markets in Mar.
