Nintendo Co. this week said the Nintendo TVii service for the Wii U will support Tivo hardware in Jan.

With Tivo support, users will be able to control their Tivo to record programs via the Nintendo TVii service on the Wii U GamePad.

At launch, Nintendo TVii will support cable and satellite providers, in addition to direct integration with Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus in the U.S.

Integration with Netflix scheduled for early 2013.

With Nintendo TVii users can utilize the Wii U GamePad to access additional information for any TV program or engage and comment on content with other users with Miiverse, Twitter or Facebook.

The service is available at no cost to all Wii U owners.

The Wii U was released Nov. 18 in two SKUs, including the Basic Set at $299.99 and Deluxe Set at $349.99.
