Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 climbed in the latest retail data from Japan.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 36,994 units between Dec. 3 and Dec. 9 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 29,809 units to rank second the week prior.
Sega Corp.’s Yakuza 5 ranked as the No. 1 software for the week selling 356,757 units at launch.
Sony this week said The Last of Us for the Playstation 3 will be sold May 7, 2013.
Pre-order bonus incentives will include the Sights & Sounds Pack and the Survival Pack.
The Sights & Sounds Pack includes the official game soundtrack, PS3 Dynamic Theme, and PSN Avatars.
The Survival Pack, to be offered at GameStop Corp. stores, includes Bonus Experience Points, Multiplayer Melee Attack Booster, In Game Currency for Multiplayer Characters, Customizable Items for Multiplayer, and Bonus Skins for Joel and Ellie.
Developed by Naughty Dog Inc., The Last of Us is said to include survival and action elements amid abandoned cities decimated by a plague.
Sony this week said the God of War: Ascension Mutiplayer Beta for the Playstation 3 will launch to Playstation Plus members Jan. 8.
The Multiplayer Beta will include Team Favor of the Gods and Favor of the Gods Mode. Each mode requires users to fight to reach a number of favor points from the Gods.
In addition, the beta will include a tutorial mode which will include customization and upgrade options from the final game.
Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week price cut Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale for the Playstation 3 to under $50 in a new game sale.
This week, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale holds a sale price of $49.99, $10 off the $59.99 MSRP.
Pre-order sales for Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch for the Playstation 3 ranked in the top 10 pre-order sales at GameStop Corp.’s online division this week post demo release.
This week, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch ranked as the No. 8 best-selling pre-order product at GameStop.com.
Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this month said it will release Dark Souls II to the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
The sequel, in development at FromSoftware, is said to include epic gruesome battles and signature difficulty.
The final game is said to include a revamped server-based multiplayer mode.
Sales for the Playstation Vita ranked fifth in the latest retail data from Japan.
The PS Vita sold 11,039 units between Dec. 3 and Dec. 9 to rank as the No. 5 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the hardware sold 11,066 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 19,637 units to rank at No. 4 in the same period.

By comparison, the hardware sold 1,217 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any software in the top 10 game sales.
Microsoft this week released the Crimson Map Pack for Halo 4.
The Crimson Map Pack adds three new War Games Battlefields – Wreckage, Harvest, and Shatter. The expansion will include eight Achievements and sell at 800 Microsoft Points.
In addition, a new game type called Extraction is now available.
Extraction is a 5 vs. 5 objective-based game type where opposing Spartan teams are tasked with extracting assets from various sites around the map.
Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II for the Xbox 360 held as the top Xbox Live games in the latest activity data.
This week, Microsoft said Call of Duty: Black Ops II ranked as the No. 1 Xbox Live title for the week of Dec. 3 based on unique users.
Halo 4 ranked at No. 2 and Minecraft ranked at No. 3 in the same period.

Microsoft this week said it will launch a wave of new applications to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.
Between now and spring 2013, the company will launch more than 40 apps to global territories.
New apps for the U.S. include MTV, Maxim, Machinima, PBS, and Skydrive.
Activision Blizzard Inc. this week released the Nuketown Zombies Trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II to the Xbox Live division of the Xbox 360.
The Nuketown Zombies Map features new co-op play as a hazmat squad that encounters a mob of fast zombies in Nuketown.
The is now available in the Xbox Live division.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops II DLC Season Pass includes four DLC Map Packs in addition to the Nuketown Zombies Bonus Map at $49.99.
Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware ranked as the No. 1 hardware at launch in Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 308,142 units between Dec. 3 and Dec. 9 to rank No. 1 in overall sales.
The Wii sold 6,714 units in the same period.
Nintendo this week said Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment’s Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition the Wii U is now available for digital download purchase at the Nintendo eShop.
Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition includes the new Battle Armored Tech combat mode and new Armored Suits for Batman and Catwoman.
Nintendo this week said the demo for Sega Corp.’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed for the Wii U is now available at the Nintendo eShop.
In addition, the full game is available for digital download.
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing includes unique land, air and water vehicles that can transform to take advantage of select terrain.
Sales for the Nintendo 3DS spiked in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 211,499 units between Dec. 3 and Dec. 9 to rank as the No. 2 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 167,408 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked five titles in the top 10 including Paper Mario: Sticker Star at No. 3, Animal Crossing: New Leaf at No. 5, New Super Mario Bros. 2 at No. 8, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon at No. 9 and Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney at No. 10.
The Nintendo 3DS handheld has surpassed Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 in lifetime sales in Japan.
Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS has sold 8,779,378 units in Japan since launch in Feb. 26, 2011.
By comparison, the PS3 has sold 8,716,260 units since launch on Nov. 11, 2006.
Microsoft Corp. this week expanded distribution of the Surface tablet to Best Buy Co Inc. and Staples Inc. stores.
All three Surface RT SKUs are available at BestBuy.com and Staples.com.
The device was previously sold only at Microsoft Store locations.
