Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware climbed in Japan in the latest retail data from the region in data captured pre-launch of the Wii U.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 5,550 units between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 3,590 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Super Deluxe Edition at No. 3.

Nintendo in Oct. lowered full-year net income by 70 percent to six billion yen, or $75 million. It previously estimated net income at 20 billion yen.

For the first half of the fiscal year, Nintendo held revenue of $2.5 billion, down from $2.7 billion one year ago. It posted a loss of $359.8 million compared to a loss of $880.7 million one year prior.

The Wii holds a global install base of 51 million units.

Nintendo will release Wii U, the successor the Wii hardware, Nov. 18.
