Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked second in hardware in the latest retail data from Japan.

Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 17,035 units between Nov. 12 and Nov. 18 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 18,043 units to rank second the week prior.

The PS3 ranked five titles in the top 10 in Japan including Assassin’s Creed III at No. 2, Medal of Honor: Warfighter at No. 5, Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires at No. 7, Need for Speed: Most Wanted at No. 8, and Tales of Xilla 2 at No. 10.

In the second quarter, the Playstation 3 and Playstation 2 sold 3.5 million units combined, a decline from 4.9 million one year prior.

PS3 and PS2 software sales increased in the quarter to 41.4 million from 40.2 million units one year prior.

Sony’s game business division held $1.9 billion in revenue, down from $2.2 billion and $28.8 million in operating income, down from $37.5 million year-over-year.
