Capcom Co.’s Street Fighter X Tekken for Sony Corp.’s Playstation Vita is a solid mobile fighter that includes the entire console experience and more into a tight handheld SKU.
The PS Vita SKU includes 55 playable characters, 12 of which were sold in a prior DLC package.
In addition, the Vita SKU includes the exclusive Pac-Man and MegaMan 1 characters exclusive to the PS3 and Vita.
Modes include Arcade, Versus, Network, Training, Challenge, and Customize.
Street Fighter X Tekken utilizes the Street Fighter IV engine to bring Tekken characters to 2D. The result is a seamless transition that incorporates trademark fight moves and dodge maneuvers from Tekken to battle the Street Fighter cast.
In the tag battle system, users switch fighters dynamically with Middle Punch and Middle Kick pressed simultaneously. The fight system introduces a Launcher function with Hard Punch and Hard Kick simultaneously to hit opponents into the air to initiate a multi-hit juggle. The Cross Rush initiator with Light, Medium, Hard, Hard Punch or Kick will begin a combo that ends with a launcher. When one fighter on the either team is defeated the battle ends.
The PS Vita control setup includes both d-pad, analog and touch-based controls, all of which work admirably in a portable configuration. Tag combos and launcher moves can be executed well with both the d-pad and analog stick. Touch-based controls with finger-point attacks and rear touch panel launcher moves are a decent alterative for novice users.
The graphics engine is top-notch at 60 frames-per-second. Textures are a tad less detailed than the console counterpart, but colors are vibrant throughout. Sound effects are clear with each punch and kick.
Finally, the PS Vita SKU includes local, online and 3G play to bout competitors or co-op on-the-go. Cross functionality works without a hitch to tackle console or handheld users seamlessly.
Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken for the PS Vita is a top mobile fighter that packs the full punch of the console experience in a handheld SKU. With a robust fighting roster, local and online play options, the title launches sharp controls and graphics for a premium fight fest.
