Microsoft Corp.’s new Surface is backordered by three weeks according to company’s store website.
This week, all three configurations of the Surface with Windows RT, which include the $499 32GB SKU, the $599 32GB with Touch Cover SKU and the $699 64GB with Touch Cover SKU, hold delivery times three weeks. Previously, the $499 SKU held the longest delivery time.
Initial demand for the device looked brisk as curious customers ventured into Microsoft Stores nationwide to check out and purchase the new tablet.
Store traffic in the Costa Mesa, CA location remained high on Sunday as users tested the device along with new Windows 8 devices.
Microsoft Surface, which launched Oct. 26, includes a 10.6-inch Gorilla Glass screen, micro HDMI out, USB 3.0, front and rear cameras, kickstand, and 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi antennas.
Windows RT SKUs will include a quad-core Nvidia Tegra CPU and is compatible with downloadable Windows Store applications. In addition, Windows RT includes Office Home & Student 2013 Preview.
Surface for Windows 8 Pro, to be released in 2013, will be sold in 64GB and 128GB SKUs and feature compatibility with all x86-based Windows applications.
