Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 fell in the latest retail data from Japan.
Media Create Co. this week reported the PS3 sold 26,312 units between Oct. 8 and Oct. 14 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 42,218 units to rank third the week prior.
The PS3 ranked three titles in the top 10 including Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil 6 at No. 2, which sold 92,921 units for the week. The title has sold 727,854 units since launch.
Sony this week released a trailer for the new Playstation Store, which will feature a revamped interface when it launches next week.
New features include large takeover icons, branching menus, and dynamic searches.
The new store, to launch Oct. 23, will include a brand new user interface, simple search, and better content discovery.
Sony this week released the Public Beta for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale for the Playstation 3 to Playstation Plus members.
The beta, which supports Cross Play between the PS3 and PS Vita, will be available to all PSN users Oct. 23.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week price cut the Playstation Vita 3G / Wi-Fi SKU by seven percent in a new hardware initiative.
This week, the PS Vita 3G / Wi-Fi SKU sells at $279.99, down from the $299.99 MSRP.
Sony in Aug. said PS Vita sales totaled 2.2 million worldwide.

By comparison, the hardware sold 4,894 units the week prior.
Resident Evil 6 ranked as the No. 24 top-selling software title for the week, down from a No. 5 rank at launch last week.
Microsoft in Oct. recorded a 24 percent decline in Xbox 360 revenue from the year prior to $418 million. A total of 1.7 million Xbox 360 units shipped in the first quarter, down from 2.3 million units shipped the year prior. Xbox 360 hardware market share increased to 49 percent from 47 percent in the quarter.
In the Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business, income fell to $19 million from $340 million one year prior.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware ranked as the fifth top-selling hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 4,476 units between Oct. 8 and Oct. 14 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.
By comparison, the Wii sold 4,849 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.
Nintendo this week price cut the Wii hardware to $129.99 in time for the holiday buying period.
The new Wii configuration will include the Wii console with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort at $129.99.
A previous configuration sold at $149.99.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment this week said the title Scribblenauts Unlimited for the Wii U will feature Nintendo characters as exclusive bonus content.
Scribblenauts Unlimited will allow users to utilize dozens of characters and items from the Mario and The Legend of Zelda franchises.
Developed by 5th Cell, Scribblenauts Unlimited is a side-scrolling puzzle title to include new features and more exploration.
Nintendo this week discussed the range of operability of the new Wii U GamePad in a new session of ‘Iwata Asks’.
In an interview with the company’s Research and Development division, Toru Yamashita from the Product Development Department confirmed usage of the Wii U GamePad from his bathroom with the Wii U console was placed in his living room, though the range was within the same vicinity.
The Wii U Pro Controller will boast an 80-hour battery life on a single charge in retail product data.
A product listing for the new peripheral claims the controller will last up to 80 hours on a single charge.
By comparison, the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller claims battery life of 25 hours per charge, while the Playstation 3 Dualshock 3 Controller offers 30 hours of battery life per charge.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 79,300 units between Oct. 8 and Oct. 14 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.
The hardware sold 63,669 the week prior.
The 3DS ranked five titles in top 10, including Square Enix Holdings Co.’s Bravely Default: Flying Fairy at No. 1 and New Super Mario Bros. 2 at No. 6.
The Nintendo DS sold 537 units for the week.
Microsoft this week said it will launch the Xbox Music service to compete in the digital music sector.
The service, which will be available for the PC, Xbox 360 and mobile devices, will allow customers to purchase music or subscribe for $10 per month to listen to music on multiple devices.
Xbox Music will be sold with Windows 8, which will be released Oct. 23.
