Microsoft Corp. this week said it will launch the Xbox Music service to compete in the digital music sector.
The service, which will be available for the PC, Xbox 360 and mobile devices, will allow customers to purchase music or subscribe for $10 per month to listen to music on multiple devices.
Xbox Music will be sold with Windows 8, which will be released Oct. 23.
Microsoft in July recorded a 39 percent decline in Xbox 360 sales from the year prior to 1.1 million units in the fourth quarter. Xbox 360 hardware market share increased to 49 percent from 42 percent in the quarter.
The Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business, climbed 19.4 percent year-over-year to $292 million.
Microsoft this month price cut the Xbox 360 console by $50 in an effort to boost holiday sales.
