Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware jumped in the latest Japan retail figures amid release of Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil 6.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 4,894 units between Oct. 1 and Oct. 7 to rank No. 5 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 742 units the week prior.
Resident Evil 6 ranked as the No. 5 top-selling software title for the week selling 41,652 units at launch.
Microsoft in July recorded a 39 percent decline in Xbox 360 sales from the year prior to 1.1 million units in the fourth quarter. Xbox 360 hardware market share increased to 49 percent from 42 percent in the quarter.
The Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business, climbed 19.4 percent year-over-year to $292 million.
